Discussion: White House Vows To Veto Budget Bill That Defunds Planned Parenthood

Discussion for article #238973

Thank you Mr President!! (stands at attention and salutes!!)
It’s just another craven attempt by the GOP to deny health care. The GOP likes it when they can get gold plated health care and health insurance but other folks??? Not so much. Then we are the moochers and people who want free stuff.

Of course he would veto it. This President respects women and their right to privacy and make their own decisions

Any logically thinking person would agree… Any person (male I mean) with an ounce of feeling humanity would respect women and their right to privacy when dealing with medical (or anywhere else for that matter) issues But then we have a considerable band of Knuckle Dragging Mouth Breathers populating the hallowed halls of Congress at the moment. And their prime objective is to car camp in women’s uteri.

Has Boehner learned his lesson yet about shutting down the government or is he content to let Ted Cruz slither over from the other body yet again and lead his right-wing nutjobs? Magic 8 Ball says “Outlook not so good.”

Come on GOP, take the bait.

Give 'em a little time.

You know how slow they are on the uptake.

“White House Vows To Veto Budget Bill That Defunds Planned Parenthood.”

Shorter PBO: “Bring it.”

They don’t like it…so it must go away. Healthcare, Social Security, public schools, unions…whatever. They don’t like them so no one can have them. And these are the folks yakking about freedom all the time.

The foes of legalized abortion have lost all sense of proportion and reason. An attempt to defund and attack an organization which has a track record of reducing unplanned preganancies and improving woman’s health, is stupid. If it succeeded then abortions would increase, significantly.

The problem here is that to oppose legal abortion, you have to believe two things. First, you have to believe that an unviable potential life is in fact a full life deserving the full protection of the state. Second you have to believe that a woman should not have any say over her own body at all, and that it should be subservient to the rights of the potential life inside her. The first requires a radical redefinition of life and humanity, that contradicts traditional and biblical thinking as well as basic science. The second requires an extreme suppression of the rights of women. So those who are foes of legalized abortion are people who have already convinced themselves using a mix of mysticism and mysogony that they are warriors for a holy fight against women.

For many years I believed the first of those two required beliefs, and flirted with the second. I am ashamed of this.

Now I have moderated my views. It is clear to me that the point of Planned Parenthood is to support women and to support life. It is clear that planned parenthood is far more effective than any other organization at preventing abortions.

These folks mean something different than freedom than you and I. They see freedom as meaning freedom of capital and freedom from rules. The rest of us mean freedom from prison, freedom to love, freedom to make medical decisions, and freedom to live in saftey. I see a law, and see it as preventing someone else from limiting my freedom. Republicans see a law as the government preventing their freedom to oppress others. They do not mean “freedom to live”. They mean “freedom from rules.”

The GOP wants to defund PP so that millions of uninsured woman would be using into emergency rooms and care centers for care while the tax payer foots the bill. Pound sand assholes

Remember that the last lesson was (forgive the expression) aborted by the Obamacare website rollout. They, and most of the media, think the lesson was that they’ll take a short-lived hit from a shutdown because that’s how it played out last time, when everyone’s attention was diverted to the (to them) much shinier object. So yeah, I’m betting on a shutdown. Here’s hoping nobody can come up with a new Obama “disaster” or Clinton “scandal” shiny enough to spare them the consequences this time.

@ealleniii: Can’t “like” this enough; beautifully said.

@johnrm:

The GOP wants to defund PP so that millions of uninsured woman would be using into emergency rooms and care centers for care while the tax payer foots the bill.

And thousands, insured and uninsured, will end up, thanks to the lack of PP-prescribed contraception or (in the areas where it’s performed, done with no Federal funding even today) legal abortion, in hospitals’ “abortion wards” – a real thing that had disappeared but has been making a comeback in the past several years, where women are treated, with varying degrees of success, for the effects of self-induced or back-alley abortions. Wards for the treatment of knitting-needle insertions, cleaning-fluid douches, unsanitary butchery – the good old days when whores got what was coming to them. Damn these fuckers.

It took two high risk preganancies, followed by a miscarriage on an unplanned pregancy due to a failed IUD. Working day in and out with OBs gave me a great respect for the work they do, the difficult choices they make with patients. As I watched the lives inside my wife pose a risk to her very life, it became clear to me that I am in no position to force any woman to quite literally risk death.

I have sat through an ultrasound, weekly, from 7 weeks. I have seen life develop. It requires mysticism and the false belief in the existence of a soul to see potential humanity as actual humanity. It takes a great deal of arrogance to see the life growing inside the women as more important than the woman herself. Yes, as viability approaches, we been to see the lives as more valuable. Yes as they begin to look like babies, the tissue means more to us.

The PP defunding is bogus. However, as in many, many jobs it’s incumbent upon employees, especially officers and higher-ups, to be very circumspect in what they say and who they say it to. Police, teachers, corporate executives etc can land themselves in very hot water for not being mindful of their words. Put yourself in an industry already considered controversial, such as being a provider of abortions, and the onus to default to a "STFU’ mode is even more urgent. What the hell are PP employees doing sitting around yammering on and on with ANYONE about the subject of aborted fetal tissue? At least an extremely rigorous vetting of the person wanting to talk is called for. Just STFU.

This is very good; I wholeheartedly support this position. Now, please, Mr. President–and all good Democrats–please let the Republicans know you will not stand for their dirty little game with Social Security funding. Please tell the Republicans you will not allow the forced cuts in benefits to those on Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) the GOP is planning starting January 01, 2016 – cuts of 20% or more. Those unnecessary cuts will force many people onto the streets or worse. Please take a stand. Thank you.

Veto away…PP is done. They are going to get it like they got ACORN…and PP deserves it. If they haven’t trained folks NOT TO FUCKING TALK about abortion with ANYONE…they deserve to lose. Is this a surprise to PP…that folks want them gone? That GOP’ers like to use the video scam? Who’d have thunk it? They are done…and they did it to themselves.

I would normally say something smarmy and juvenile just to goad the GOP and make myself feel morally superior right about now. But I’m trying to turn over a new leaf and be more thoughtful and substantive with my missives. Just kidding. Eat shit and die GOP.
