Somehow I think the fans will see through this obvious ploy and be none too happy about it.

It hasn’t gone unnoticed that Trump is viciously attacking the NFL -but not the NBA- for at least two reasons.
He’s exploiting the division between the ownership, who seemingly hold their players in little regard or even respect, and the players. And also between owners themselves.
The owners have also been caught flat-footed by the protests and hamstrung in their response by their collusion in the Kaepernick situation. They made no decision for the longest time, annoying everyone in the process, and exacerbated it by making a bad decision that some owners have already rejected.
Trump sensed weakness and went for the kill at their expense. Just another bad job by the NFL. They won’t stand up for their players or for social justice, and won’t stand up to Trump.
Perhaps they could meet in the stadium parking lot for a bigly group mooning response to his ego tripping.
