Discussion: White House: Trump Plans To Help Pay Aides' Legal Costs For Russia Probes

They better start raising some cash, cause he is willing to stiff Gold Star Mothers and charities, so why not White House Staffers?

And, not for nothing, how is this legal? How is this not a bribe?

President Donald Trump intends to spend at least $430,000 of his own money …

Remember how much money Barack Obama had to spend to defend members of his staff/Administration to defend themselves against prosecution? Me neither…and I wonder how much of this money will come out of his pocket, and not be paid for by his campaign or the RNC. I’m betting somewhere between zero and none.

Is there a sliding scale on payouts depending of how bigly the lies are they must tell?

If the money is coming from the RNC or rump isn’t there a conflict of interest?

Click your heels and say ā€œwitness tamperingā€ three times.

Anything having to do with the Mango Mussolini IS a conflict of interest…

If Trump is paying the fees, isn’t he the client rather than the staffer the attorneys are ā€œhelping?ā€

If Drumpf is paying the fees isn’t that a presumption that the attorneys won’t get paid?

Federal Prosecutors routinely bring conflict of interest to the attention of the court where a defendant’s attorneys fees are paid for by higher ranking co-conspirators who would want the defendant’s silence.

If I were a staffer likely to called in Mueller’s investigations, I’d keep in mind how Donnie Two-scoops sent the check to the bereaved father he promised $25K from his own bank account.

Every time I think he can’t get lower or stupider he pulls another one out of his ass. And that’s what this arrangement smells like.

Isn’t this obstruction of justice? Preemptive witness tampering? Racketeering and corrupt practices?

President Donald Trump intends to spend at least $430,000 of his own money to help pay the legal bills of White House staff and campaign aides related to the investigations into Russian election meddling in the 2016 election, a White House official said Saturday.

ha! The day that guy pays for something out of his own pocket… is never.

However, if he does, we get to tack on the bonus charge of witness tampering, as has been mentioned above.

I wonder what form this money is going to take. If it’s like some of his ā€œcharitableā€ contributions, it will take the form of limited-time-only coupons at his golf clubs that you can offer to give your attorney in lieu of actual cash.

SPOILER ALERT

He’ll never actually cut the check.

It is quite conceivable that trump made this offer looking for leverage over their testimony or perhaps over their lawyers.

Perhaps this is coming from that million dollar slush fund left over from the inauguration?

In any event, I am sure Mueller is paying attention. Cuz, given DJTs history of short paying for professional services, if he does go down this road and end up short changing someone because their testimony was not ā€˜loyal’ enough they will have even more incentive to dump on trump and that is where the nuthing burger (potentially) in the initial investigation turns into a full chorus singing the Obstruction of Justice tune.

Anyone who accepts this offer had better have it drawn up in a legally binding contract - we all know how donnie likes to not pay his bills.

toll the legal bills have taken on his family, including having to empty out his children’s college savings accounts.

Too bad for his kids (really) but anyone who helped elect such an obviously unfit candidate should suffer consequences beyond what those of us who didn’t help him are suffering.

And, yeah, it was obvious, despite what many conservatives who now criticize trump like to imply when they talk about there having been hope he’d ā€œpivotā€. Seems they all sing that song: ā€œAhum, aher, now, for the sake of the GOP (or the sake of the country) it’s time to admit that Mr. Trump isn’t going to pivot. Bla bla bla.ā€ Only an idiot or a GOP shill (or, frequently, both) would have thought otherwise.

Well he might find and negotiate some nice places in Russia for them and provide letters of recommendation when they are applying for a food service position and citizenship.

I understand the Kamchatka peninsula is really nice in the spring.
