Of course they rejected Cruz’ ludicrous assertion that it would be an abuse of power.
Cruz is wrong, both legally and historically.
He’s also a flaming asshole.
Tell President Cruz to go fuck himself. And send the video to Gov. Corbett.
Again unprepared. Obama knew that this was coming for some time. Why isn’t a successor ready to go and a strategy in place?
I suppose the idea that announcing Holder’s replacement before Holder announces his resignation comes into play… just a little – is that really too simple?
You have no idea what is going on behind the scenes.
Shorter Cruz: “Don’t let the African-American president act like a president.”
“another extreme partisan who would likewise disregard the law”
Looking in the mirror, Ted? I’ll bet you are, sucking those lines of cocaine up as fast as your blowhard lungs will let you.
Ah, Jeff “Psychiatric” Sessions throws in his 2 cents … always a good laugh.
Do you think it really matter who Pres Obama nominates? The republicans are going to block any nomination of whoever Pres Obama chooses, just as they’ve been doing since Mr Obama entered office 6 years ago. So, he might as well nominate a female Hispanic for AG, don’t you think?
It’s gotta hurt - the GOP hated Holder (and are just fuming that Holder stepped down on his terms and not because the GOP forced him) and the GOP has to actually consent to Obama’s selection for Holder’s replacement to fulfill their dream of having Holder out. Bottom line, the GOP hates and hates - but which hate is stronger?
Why is this inept? It’s not as if the position will be unfilled and there’d be a coverage gap. AG Holder is staying til the moment his successor is sworn in. Might be two more years - how’d you like that?
I’m favoring Michigan’s former Attorney General and two-term Governor Jennifer Granholm. She’s another Harvard scholar and wouldn’t put up with the GOP’s constant disrespectful behavior.
Um, Holder’s resignation was just announced yesterday, but yea, we get your schtick. It is quite familiar.
Let’s see… POTUS and the AG discussed this Labor Day weekend. Several weeks later AG announces - with the important proviso that resignation will go into effect when nominee is confirmed by the Senate. Until then Holder remains AG. Wingers start the demands, laying out their positions while POTUS waits. And POTUS is unprepared? Sure, Holder just kinda spoke and POTUS had no idea. Sure. Don’t be ridiculous, Holder and Obama are in control here - the hated by the GOP AG will remain in office until the day a successor is confirmed. And they are laying out their demands? Hint: since the position is occupied until such time, the president has no necessity to nominate anyone today, and absolutely no need whatsoever to give Jeff Sessions a single thing. You don’t like Holder? Here’s my choice. You don’t like my choice, Holder stays. What part of that is a negative for the president? Other than he’ll be attacked for being unprepared. Or being a meanie. Or playing politics. Let’s see him get re-elected acting like that! Oh, wait…
One of the in-house trolls who post only for one purpose; give likes and never post content over one liners; like certain writers/posters work. The joepaulson and several more easily identifiable trolls/click baiters. Some schtick I bet they understand the language. This writer requires supplication.
“There is a precedent for presidents making important cabinet nominations and counting on Congress to confirm them promptly even in the context of a lame duck session, if necessary,” Earnest said, pointing out that a Republican-led Senate confirmed President George W. Bush’s nominee for secretary of defense, Robert Gates, in December 2006, just weeks before Democrats claimed control of the chamber.

Note that Holder hasn’t actually resigned - his resignation takes effect only upon confirmation of his successor. That gives Obama an opening for a recess appointment if Congress fails to approve an AG before the next Congress is sworn in. If they manage to delay or block whoever he picks, Holder officially resigns in between Congresses, Obama immediately appoints the next person, and voila - it holds up even to the stricter standard that SCOTUS rejected, since both the vacancy and the appointment occurred during a recess between sessions of Congress. I have no doubt that this isn’t a coincidence.
Proud to be a TEDoPhile, are ya?
Here’s your badge of malignorance.
Why is it so complicated? Aren’t they still Senators? Aren’t they still getting paid? Do your job!
