Discussion: White House, Senate Dems Say They'd OK Short-Term Funding Bill To Avoid Shutdown

Discussion for article #240521

is Pinhead Mitch OK with this or is he going to allow sCruz and Clown Boy Rand to play ‘savior’ by deciding to declare they have ‘scruples’ that they don’t really have?

Good idea. Prolong the GOP agony while they get it together. Just focuses the spotlight on their ridiculousness and dysfunction.

That’s probably how this plays out. Relatively sane Republicans plus Democrats equals a bill that passes. And watch the right wing fringe howl at the moon.

Obama and Reid shouldn’t do a damn thing to save the Rethuglican’s asses — once again!

Let them shut down the fucking government, and then watch the Greedy Odious Pricks fade into oblivion once and for all.

Enough is enough.

Normally, I’d agree with you. Really. However, this is good strategy on Reid’s and the WH’s part in that it pushes the inevitable gov’t shutdown well into the election year. In any event, this does NOT end well for the Rethugs.

I have to give you praise Harry, because you have really been a hell of a leader in the Senate. You have been a much better Senate Leader than I first thought. With that said, I thank you for your tremendous service in the U. S. Senate!

Agree.

I remember when Obama and the Democrats in the Dec. 2010 lame-duck session agreed to extend the Bush tax cuts for two years. Many liberals complained that unemployment benefit and payroll tax cut extensions were only extended for one year, and some smelled a sell-out.

But a year later, when it became time to extend them again, the Republicans balked – at the start of the 2012 election season – and the resulting outrage exposed them as tools of the rich and they were beaten in 2012.

Yes, a short term extension is a very good idea. A two month extension puts us at the Thanksgiving holiday when the Congress critters don’t want to be in Washington. A three month extension would be interesting because it puts us right in the Christmas holidays when the Congress critters likewise don’t want to be in Washington. A four month extension takes us to late January which is just before the primary elections begin and I’m sure the Congress critters don’t want a shutdown at that time because a shutdown would probably run into some of the primary elections. And, of course, a longer extension only takes us deeper into the 2016 campaigns when a shutdown would be even more awkward for the Pubbies. Please, please, please, Pubbies, take a nine month extension deal. That would be perfect. A government shutdown in time for your convention.

Actually, this is PERFECT political cover. When they turn it down–and you know the Teabaggers will–you simply refuse to even TALK to them afterward and say they are more interested in not doing their job than doing it.
