Nonsense. You have to have insurance in order to get a mortgage. But an insurance company wonât touch a home in these areas if they arenât backed by this federal insurance program. If Congress balks at this, insurance companies will refuse policies, mortgages wonât be underwritten and a new collapse in the housing markets happens.
And this scenario WILL play out eventually. Maybe not now, but as storms keep getting stronger and more frequent, the chain I mentioned above will break. Insurance companies in FL get skittish after every major storm.
