It’s going to take a lot of fire out of the argument that they should pay for the wall.

Whoa! I wonder how that will play with Fox viewers? The US isn’t big enough, strong enough, prepared enough to handle our own disasters.

Mexico and Canada are demonstrating generosity, a concept alien to Trump and most of his administration. That said, Bossert’s delivery is akin to a Stepford wife or, I suppose, Stepford husband…

Trump will count every damn dime in money, services and assistance as payment from Mexico being applied to the wall.

“The money we don’t spend out of our own Treasury to help storm victims, thanks to Mexico’s assistance, will be diverted to construction of the wall.”

Remember Rubes, “I ALONE CAN FIX IT.” Hat in f’ing hand to Mexico lol.

The asshat was just forced into admitting that the undocumented people impacted by the flooding are screwed. They’re not getting any help after the initial rescue, and the Trump maladministration is going to do whatever they can to kick them out with barely the clothes on their backs.

In other words, “sure, ask for help. It makes it easier for us to identify you and deport you. Thanks Harvey!”

Wait just a minute. I know all about the kind of people Mexico sends here and I don’t want any part of it. I don’t need a side helping of rape with my disaster relief. I think Big Daddy Trump should cover it out of his pocket to protect the hoo-hahs of our white women from The Latin Menace.

Yup, that’s true.

Soooo…Goopers are going to take the help from Mexico and claim that this saves money that can now be spent on the Wall.

Voila!! Mexico has just paid for the Wall!! Donnie wins!!!

The malfeasance and incompetence of the Trump White House quite apart, there is a higher politics and a neighbourly decency in Canada, the U.S., and Mexico helping each other through crises of this kind. As a Canadian myself, and with what may well be climate change-related wildfires devastating the interior of my own home province of British Columbia this summer, I donated to the Canadian Red Cross’s “Operation Hurricane Harvey” fund this morning. That money goes directly to the Red Cross in Houston, my neighbours in spirit if not in geographic fact.

We owe it to ourselves, as people sharing this continental landmass and with our fates thus joined in political, economic and ecological terms, to be better than the Trump White House (or any future government in any of the three countries) in how we regard and look out for each other. The White House might be prepared, be it in viewing NAFTA as a Canadian conspiracy against U.S. interests or immigration across the Mexican border as an existential threat, to vilify their neighbours to the north and south. But as citizens of North America, we have to be better people, and it should go without saying, the president and a number of his senior staff and much of his cabinet make that rather easy.

The European Union has any number of institutions to ensure cooperation and a degree of mutual identity amid the member countries, despite the far longer and worse history of relations among them. We lack that, and given the unequal size of the three nations, we won’t and can’t have such integration. So any enlightened cooperation, during a natural disaster or even in ordinary circumstances, is a welcome thing here.

In other news, Trump just pledged “$1 million in his personal funds” for Harvey relief. Yeah. We’ll all hold our breaths waiting for that check to clear.

With the Trump Foundation shut down by Schneiderman, how’s he going to be able to get other people to pay for this and still take credit for himself?

I’ll bet a huge amount of the labor, cleaning up and rebuilding will be undocumented Mexicans. Likely most of that money will find its way back to Mexico.

As part of its agreement to take Canadian and Mexican aid for Hurricane Harvey, the U.S. announced all donations must be funneled through Trump Bank, NA, which will charge a “modest” 25% transaction fee prior to distributing the proceeds.

Yes, and ICE will be stupid enough to go around arresting people actively engaged in cleaning up and rebuilding the region because they’re “illegals”. Trump will give them marching orders just to make a point. What point that is I’m unsure of, other than to bare his shiny red ass like a monkey posturing for a fight.

Thanks Canada, thanks for the help during and after 9/11, we do need to all do better. Would you accept some Harvey water for your fire problem?

I wonder if his base knows that the Trump Foundation had to be shut down, I’m betting on no.
