Discussion: White House: No Plan To Fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller

President Donald Trump isnā€™t thinking about or talking about firing special counsel Robert Mueller.

Thatā€™s a lie. He thinks and talks about it a lot, Iā€™ll bet.

Also, Trump never fires anyone. Heā€™ll get someone else to do it.

A very lame attempt at slow rolling Congress so they donā€™t pass something to prevent Trump from having Mueller removed.

But consider the sheer audacity on display here. Trump does not have the authority to fire Mueller. Any attempt by the WH to pressure the DoJ to remove Mueller will be viewed through an OOJ lens.

Yetā€¦here is his freaking lawyer, announcing to the world that the question has been consideredā€¦just rejected for right now. The only reasonable statement would be something along the lines of ā€œThe President is completely aware that he has no statutory control over Mr. Mueller or his investigation. He was appointed by the DoJ, and his continued work is entirely up to their discretion and proceduresā€

Anything else, including the statement Cobb did release, is merely helping Mueller build yet another OOJ case against his client.

Agreed, Trump is not thinking or talking about firing Muellerā€¦ He wrote a note to Sessions to have him do it.

You say: ā€œMueller has been investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election ā€“ a probe Trump believes is politically motivated.ā€
Do you mean?: "Mueller has been investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election ā€“ a probe Trump says is politically motivated.

Your version is correct. The ā€œbelieveā€ version is almost never correct.

Blandsten, I need to disagree with you on one small point.

I believe Cobb when he writes that Trump ā€œis not consideringā€¦ the firingā€ of Mueller. Trump doesnā€™t consider anything, ever. Trump is more likely to fire Mueller because he ate a bad piece of beef jerky than he is because he ā€œconsideredā€ it beforehand.

Couldnā€™t the headline have ended after ā€œPlanā€?

GMTA, except your take is even briefer than mine. As tamdai suggests, I figured it would simply happen as a spasmā€“not the result of any careful political, social, moral, and/or historical calculus.

When one acts in the moment totally on base instincts, there is never ā€œa plan,ā€ so this story is pure horse shit not because of the writer, but because of the Dotardā€™s personality.

The President had full confidence in Flynn just hours before his departureā€¦

The President doesnā€™t ā€˜planā€™ things, he just acts.

Generally, I agree with you. Heā€™s compulsive and damn dangerous. However, I do think he thinks about getting rid of Mueller a lot.

Regardless, agree with you or not, your comment was funny shit.

Yes, I would love to look back on all the things that Trump wasnā€™t planning to do that were done in short order. I totally believe he has no plan - I also think once it becomes obvious that his financial misdeeds are going to be revealed in any form whatsoever that Mueller will be gone that same day.

You are ultimately right. Mueller must be on the Presidentā€™s mind night and day.

I guess my point is really just never to underestimate the power of beef jerky. It could be the one thing that pushes him over the edge.

You have to read Dershā€™s op-ed in The Hill to get the full flavor of his venality. http://thehill.com/opinion/white-house/379372-trump-is-right-the-special-counsel-should-never-have-been-appointed

Low level crimesā€¦

  • National Security Adviser was a paid agent of Russia and Turkey, and conspired to kidnap and rendition a legal US resident on behalf of his client.
  • Campaign Manager, and colleague who went on to work in White House, money laundered for years to the tune of many millions. Said campaign manager also worked directly for Russians, funneling them information, while running campaign.
  • President admitted out loud, in TV interview and to Russian diplomats in the Oval Office, that he fired FBI director specifically to end Russia probe.
  • Attorney General of The United States has lied multiple times before Congressional committees in regards to Russia/Campaign matters.
  • Presidentā€™s son-in-law, nepotistic WH hire, lied repeatedly on his clearance forms about contacts with Russians, as have many other political appointees of this administration.
  • Once-respected Harvard Law Professor, for some inexplicable reason, is throwing away his reputation for all time to pose as a 2nd rate political hack.

Oh, that last one is not exactly a crime, but merely an embarrassment.
