Discussion: White House Kept Haspel, Who Heard Khashoggi Audio, From Senate Briefing

That’s nice, Donald, but she’ll be sitting in front of HPSCI in mid January.

“Unless you speak Arabic, what are you going to get from it?” Bolton said. “You want me to listen to it? What am I going to learn from ― I mean, if they were speaking Korean, I wouldn’t learn anything more from it, either.”

Ah yes, we only accept English-Only intelligence sources these days. Kind of like a throw-back to Civil War intelligence operations…

I seem to recall Haspel understands/speaks Arabic…

Which means that Spankee and BoltHead would run the danger of having to abandon their Sgt Schultz stance.

Having been trying to learn Spanish, admittedly half assed, I would tend to agree that if you don’t speak a language fairly fluently you really won’t get much out of listening to it.

One reporter mentioned you might get a feel from the inflection in the peoples voice, but I really doubt that too as some languages sound so different and probably the inflection could mean something completely different.

So even having someone interpret as it’s going, they’d probably need to stop and give insights as to probable mood.

Trump is a horrible person, completely unfit to serve. I hope we will be able to make our way out of the nightmare.

During a press briefing on Tuesday, National Security Adviser John Bolton was dismissive of reporters who asked whether he had heard the audio.

“Unless you speak Arabic, what are you going to get from it?” Bolton said. “You want me to listen to it? What am I going to learn from ― I mean, if they were speaking Korean, I wouldn’t learn anything more from it, either.”

So Johnny while you were UN Ambassador you didn’t listen to the simultaneous translation?

I am calling Melania’s blood red Christmas trees the Jamal Khashoggi Memorial Hallway Display. (I hope that isn’t in poor taste.)

Blocking Haspel from the briefing was not well received by the Senators. Which genius at the WH thought this a good idea?

There’s a term at the UN called “simultaneous translation”. Ask Nikki Haley and every other UN ambassador how it works.

They just love their WH jobs way too much to piss Trump off.

Fair enough

In the end, she’d would just lie to protect ‘1600’.

Something tells me that horrific screams transcend translation.

It’s like a recording of a rape. What good is an audio recording if the victim doesn’t recite the name, social security number and address of the rapist?

@schmed beat me to it… Screams and choking sounds are pretty much universal.

Yeah, I was going to “like” your comment, but on second thought realized it would be in questionable taste. However, your take was exactly my first thought when it came to Bolton’s statement.

My second thought was, “why would he use Korean as his example?”

Ummmm…the blood trees are bad taste. Naming them after someone who was brutally murdered then dismembered is simply a reminder of all the blood that must have gushed in that embassy (and hopefully a few WH visitors will think about this when they walk through there), and remember that Kushner’s Saudi bro ordered this.

I hear you.

However, I try keep in mind that sometimes the like button means “I like what you said”, but sometimes the like button means, “I acknowledge you make a very good point”. In lieu of a excellent point button we have to double-task like. In that context, it would not be in bad taste to have liked the comment.

As any Narcissist likes to do (IMHO), controlling information is another major tool. This also includes manipulating and shaping the information to suit their purposes.

However, sometimes the absence of information becomes more informative than the data itself. And that is something at times I think the Narcissist forgets. A major flaw in their micro management of any situation.

What I do not see happening, and when I think of it in many current situations, is the chopping up and doling out of data in a compartmentalized way. I am used to seeing people with pieces of the picture but never seeing the whole. In this case, direct denial and avoidance is in effect instead. And when I say direct, I mean he is responding without any real nuance or finesse again. Possible panic moves in this process. This might be more of a tell than I realized. Hmm… have to think about that a bit more.

I’m curious: How does one scream in Arabic?
