The press corps should watch the Warriors to see how cooperative play can produce the best results. Why not at least take a rebound after SHS or Drumpf tries to shut someone down, and shoot again by asking a question that follows up on what they tried to squash? if you let them keep changing the subject by strategically calling on different reporters who each has his or her own pet topic, then you lose the chance to get good information.
They can also report it as “WH/Sanders/POTUS declined to answer our follow-up question as to Why this was…”
The Catch?
There shall be only 3 Press Conferences during the next 2 years. The White House expects gratitude and respect in return for these 3 Press Conferences.
Translation: All Press Conferences are hereby cancelled : All journalists will instead have access to Stenography Opportunities. Isn’t that the way it has always been?
Please, Sir, may I have some more?
“Having said that” or “that being said”, “honestly”, “at the end of the day”, “actually”, “literally”, “seriously”, and my favorite most hated and most overworked “like.” Word crutches, all of them.
The winner in this battle between journos and an administration which will always label news about them they don’t like as fake news will always be the First Amendment. They are tyrants and don’t have a clue about the Constitution and its guaranteed freedoms
“necessarily” <=== Very rarely needed; with incorrect usage, almost always with “not”, it becomes a weasel word.
“let’s be honest” <=== Dishonesty is the implied default
“to tell the truth” <=== Ditto
“let’s face it” <=== Insulting, implying the interlocutor was not “facing it”.
These new rules allow Sanders to avoid answering ANY questions. She can simply give a nonsensical lie as an answer, then not allow the reporter a follow-up question.
I like the idea of sending ONE reporter to the pool, but those would be very short press conferences. Sanders would treat a second question as a follow-up and not allow it. After a couple of days of that, tRump would flip out and demand more reporters, or fill the slots with safe media outlets.
Norms. Jesus wept, they’re citing norms! The irony, it burns.
As for their rules, shortly after releasing the first four strictures, they announced an addendum containing two more rules, which I quote here in full:
Rule 5: The WH can, at any time, publish via the official WH Press Sec twitter account a fake video that “shows” journalist rule breakers breaking rules. These videos can then be used as justification for revoking a press pass.
Rule 6: All questions to the president must be about how the economy has numbers, and how those numbers are the best ever, or so he’s been told, not that he needs to be told, because he’s a businessman who makes the best deals ever (And really, why risk your press pass asking about anything else when the president is just going to answer all questions as if they were about the economy?) Failure to follow this rule will result in the creation of a video that shows the offending journalist rule breaker eating a hot dog, but the video will be altered to make the hot dog look like a cute baby kitten.
Roflmfao ; Simples : NO one attends the press briefings - they are all lies .
Two things:
This group (at the WH) does not follow riles. Any rules. They will not be able to follow their own rules for even a short period of time.
And Donnie will not be able to execute his role properly and rrepeatedly (giving permission for each follow up question that he wants).
Donnie has been relying heavily on follow up questions from reporters to get his cues.
All Donald will be able to do consistently is to be petty to those he doesn’t like.
The White House has said it will put in place new rules for journalists at press briefings
we prefer:
But being we are so nice we relented and softened the rules.
I see. So, ‘special rules’ for journalists who engage in “unprofessional behavior”. Any special rules for a president engaging in the same?
It seems to me ‘leading by example’ would be a great place to start…
I’m reminded of this rather Orwellian narrative…
“There is nothing wrong with your television. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are now controlling the transmission. We control the horizontal and the vertical. We can deluge you with a thousand channels or expand one single image to crystal clarity and beyond. We can shape your vision to anything our imagination can conceive. For the next hour we will control all that you see and hear. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the deepest inner mind to the outer limits…”
They’ve already been doing some of that. Have you seen the WH Press Corps lists recently? Even Breitbart has a chair at the party.
You listen to cable news (mea culpa MSNBC) you start counting the little sins that drop from almost everyone’s mouth. We hear it, we adopt it, we stupid sound.
What is the purpose of these “daily” press conferences? Nothing news related ever comes from them. Except bullshit. I would rather reporters use their sources more and expose this administration further.
