“ISIL is a hateful and abhorrent terrorist group whose actions stand in stark contrast to the spirit of people like Kayla.”

I remember a time when a president would make a comment like this and Americans would rally behind it. Today, not so much. Sad.

Yes. Usually I feel fairly cynical about these eulogies by politicians, but with this one, I happen to truly believe that a really wonderful American has died. This death really gets to me. And the fact that my president speaks my feelings so eloquently matters to me a great deal.

Too bad, indeed, that we can’t all mourn her together.
