“I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach!”
― Ebenezer Scrooge
Will he even recognize Hanukkah or Kwanzaa? Or will the emphasis and insistence on Christmas, Christmas, Christmas shove those other celebrations completely off the calendar? And Holiday/Christmas decorations at the WH under a Trump presidency seem almost a perversion of the season. How will they grift off of it is a question that easily and realistically springs to mind.
Let’s all send wishes for Happy Holidays to the southern Grift House.
Actually, I want for people to tweet compliments to him that have the salutation of “happy holidays.” He’ll re-tweet, of course, because he can’t let a compliment go without telling everyone that he got one. But since he “vowed” that everyone would say “Merry Christmas” it will be a nice cognitive dissonance to his supporters with a vestigial sense of irony left. (Something like "Happy Holidays to the best POTUS ever,’ but I’m afraid of the projectile vomiting, and that people will think I mean it.)
Well instead of cookies shaped liked Bo and Sunny they could also make them in the shape of Trump’s pet hair.
That poor kidnapped tree’s going to be leaking stories to the media by the end of the week.
So will the tree last that long, or will it be dropping needles by mid-december?
…will it be dropping needles by mid-december
They’ll give it a good dose of Trump’s hair spray/glue and those needles won’t be going anywhere.
Who most people don’t know was 1 of the 2 Corinthians!
Trump is taking the Christmas tree with him? What, he’s too cheap to buy the tree for Mar-A-Lago himself?
(/snark - but, seriously, would any one really be surprised?)
Seems odd how many so-called Christians do not seem to be aware of their own liturgical calendar. It is the last week of ordinary time. Advent begins on Dec. 3 and continues until Dec. 24. Christmas, and all its attending customs and greetings, is Dec. 25-Jan. 5, as it has been for centuries. Everyone running around yelling Merry Christmas before Dec. 25 might as well do it in July.
(madly giggling) Most Christians couldn’t find their liturgical with both hands.
Yea and amen. The loss of Advent in the way most “cultural Christians” celebrate the holiday is a real tragedy. But it belongs to a time in which “preparing for Christmas” was something that happened inside the person, and about as far as possible from the mad consumerist frenzy that it is today.
Along with the spiritual loss, there’s a cultural loss as well. There are very beautiful songs that belong to Advent, now buried between endless repetitions of Frosty the Snowman in the grocery store.
You’re kidding me. I wouldn’t put it past them to make a menorah out of tiki torches.
It will be spray-painted in Std.Issue Trump #3 Gold Paint…
You’re probably right. The WH, including all the Christmas trees, will be dripping with gold. The place will look so tacky, you wouldn’t believe!
