Happens way too often.

Racism is just built in to the system - started some 400 years back.

"So far 35 people were shot by police in South Carolina this year; 16 of them were killed’’ Why is this “normal”?

I hope that we are entering a new period of enlightenment when it
comes to white cop on black civilian brutality and death. It’s
everywhere but, as stated in the story, it only gets reported locally
and then for only a few days. Hopefully, we will see broader and more
intense coverage that will put the pressure on police to reform.

But it won’t be easy. As noted above, the racism is so long standing
it has been bred into the system in many cases

Officer Craven – just about says it all.

What’s the mystery? White cop kills unarmed black man execution-style, and the grand jury declines to prefer charges? Yawn.

At least they could have had the decency of charging him with littering on private property. All those shells and stuff.

Could it be that police officers in South Carolina are biased against Black citizens?

Black. Unarmed.

White. Cop

There ya’ go.

Mystery solved.

All these cases will eventually be combined and make it to SCOTUS. Whereupon there will be a 5-4 decision that driving while black was not an enumerated right envisioned by the Founding Fathers, therefore violating the sacred doctrine of original intent. It’ll do wonders for police recruitment efforts nationwide, especially south of the Mason-Dixon. Of course all the guys could just get a white girlfriend to drive them everywhere, that would foil the scheme nicely.

“Neal, who is black, also wants authorities to release evidence more quickly in police-involved shootings. Authorities often say doing so could taint potential jurors.”

oddly enough, the concern about possibly tainting the potential jury pool doesn’t seem to extend to non-police involved criminal allegations. both police and prosecutors freely disseminate information, when the alleged perpetrator is not wearing a uniform. can’t imagine why that might be.

You’re missing the point. Non-police citizens accused of a crime DON’T GET A TRIAL, they’re summarily executed by the police. Ergo there is no jury pool to taint.

His is only 3/5ths of a life.

I don’t see a mystery here. A racist pig murdered someone so he could get his jollies. What was the pig’s name? Craven. Suits him.

After a bit of fumbling, the system papered over the blatant murder and will work assidiously to make us forget it happened.

They’re not too obvious are they?

Senator Tim Scott of SC refused to attend the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington (8/24/13). Although this was a constituent I know Scott, while black in color, represents white constituents.

With Ferguson, MO and the other recent revelations one can understand why voting and other civic participations are secondary to “staying alive” in dealing with the government, for many black people.

Been that way for centuries. Family folklore passed through generations about certain incidents and how to survive the “peckerwood”. I utilized Southern slang for poor whites but in the black community, it morphed into those poor whites and “overseers” who took pleasure in violence towards blacks.

“Sometimes, the video can exonerate officers: In August, a prosecutor refused to file criminal charges against a York County deputy who wounded a 70-year-old man after mistaking his cane for a shotgun during an after-dark traffic stop. Using video, the sheriff showed how the cane’s shaft could be mistaken for a gun barrel in the dim light.”

That’s not an exoneration. That psycho cop still shot an unarmed 70-year-old man.
