Trump’s head may explode before he finds a replacement for Whitaker.
That would be a tragedy, of course.
Somehow I just don’t believe this. I’d LIKE to, but I just don’t. The whole point of appointing this guy was to mess with the Mueller investigation.
Somebody should ask him, why he fired Sessions before having a replacement ready…I would love to hear the answer…
The National Twitter Service is predicting an enhanced risk of a Tweetstorm upon Whitaker’s recusal…
Your skepticism is more than warranted.
Meanwhile, here’s Adam Schiff (writing in the Post):
The president and Whitaker should heed this warning: The new Democratic majority will protect the special counsel and the integrity of the Justice Department. Should Whitaker fail to recuse himself — all indications are that he plans not to — and seek to obstruct the investigation, serve as a back channel to the president or his legal team or interfere in the investigations in any way, he will be called to answer. His actions will be exposed.
Yes, but that was before Whitaker understood that came with personal jail risk. Not top drawer material, this one.
This is what might very well send him to jail. Because trump will be expecting that the briefings continue.
“Whitaker is currently in conversation with ethics officials within the Justice Department…”
He oughta be “in conversation” with Mueller.
About a plea deal.
This won’t end well for him or for anyone else caught up in conspiracy to obstruct justice.
Just the fact that everyone in this administration needs … urging …
Needs be … coached… to do the right thing …
EVERY … SINGLE … ONE ! —
Proof … that goopers are missing an essential piece in their DNA ----
and they ALL should be genetically modified —
Does Whitaker have a personal attorney yet?
I’m also skeptical, but sometimes people turn out to be more ethical than you expect them to be once they actually get into positions of power. Jeff Sessions, for instance, is not someone I ever expected would have recused himself to allow a special counsel to be appointed [corrected].
Unexpected bouts of ethics tend to occur particularly when it’s explained to them that doing the unethical thing can result in going to jail, which for most people (unlike career criminals like Trump and Michael Cohen) often sharpens the mind.
Sessions recused himself well before the Special Counsel was appointed by Rod Rosenstein. I think Sessions’ recusal was about protecting himself from Trump’s demands, not any excess of ethics or Sessions getting outfoxed by Franken’s questioning.
I hope he does - I want so badly to see Trump’s reaction if he recuses himself. hahahahahahaha
If Whitaker recuses himself…well, there has to be a word that’s even better than schadenfreude. Überschadenfreude? Grosseschadenfreude?
I don’t know but I think I’ll explode from it just the same.
I see a Devin Nunes-style recusal in Whitaker’s future.
Yeah!
Especially given that he replaced him with someone that he “doesn’t know.”
Chiselin’ Trump: “The prospect of Presidential Harassment Whitaker’s recusal demanded by the Dems is causing the Stock Market big headaches!”
