Duh! Republicans know that they are in a demographic death spiral and that the only way that they can continue to ‘win’ elections is by choosing their voters (as opposed to the voters choosing them).
I must say, the smiling photo of Sessions is the most revolting image I’ve seen yet of this hideous dwarf and, if Josh is interested in surfing eyeballs, I’d remove it from the main page and replace it with something more palatable like a close-up of a lice infestation or a shark attack.
It’s either that, or do something that would cause the public to want to see them re-elected. So you can see, they have no choice but to do this dirty stuff. It’s who they are. Ever since RMN.
From Coretta Scott King’s 1986 letter opposing Sessions’ nomination to be a federal judge:
“Anyone who has used the power of his office as United States Attorney
to intimidate and chill the free exercise of the ballot by citizens
should not be elevated to our courts.”
“Mr. Sessions has used the awesome powers of his office in a shabby attempt to intimidate and frighten elderly black voters. For this reprehensible
conduct, he should not be rewarded with a federal judgeship.”
Someone(s) help me out here. If someone is the victim of a false positive and is purged from a State’s voter rolls, thus invalidating their “right” to vote, at what level is that disenfranchisement? Is that an actual crime? Civil, or statutory? State or Federal? What is the penalty for falsely precluding someone’s right to vote? What recourse does someone have against those who unjustly purged him/her from the voter rolls, thus denying that “right” to vote? I use quotes around “right” because i’m not sure of the level of constitutional protections governing that right. Does anyone have the answers here?
One other thing - Here in this country, we are innocent until proven guilty. Voting is not a crime. How can voter-suppression advocates justifiably enact laws that preemptively make voting a crime without evidence that a crime has been committed? In cases where evidence of double-voting is found, is there no legal nexus required that the penalties do not outweigh the crime? Is denying the right to vote to 10,000 citizens justifiable to prevent a small handful of illegal votes? Where’s the nexus?
It’s the first time I’ve seen him smile. Usually he looks like a mouse cornered by a cat.
Harming people always warms his shriveled heart…
Orcs are too tough. Maybe a Sackville-Baggins…
Now I understand Kobach and his sham commission. Nothing but a cover for the Session’s DOJ disenfranchisement drive.
We were so excited when all those states told him to literally go jump in the ocean, and applauded so much at how easy it was to tell that arrogant bastard off. You see, Democrats, what a good soldier he is? We made him look like a complete idiot, meanwhile, the real, with teeth, voter suppression actins were already sent out to all the states.
Thanks TPM for catching it, but how can we pressure the States to step up again and tell Sessions that a) voter registration rolls are not votes, and are states business, not the concern of the Federal Government.
And see how easily they can pressure the states? The Russians try to hack some states voting systems, and the next thing you know, the fascists in the DOJ of Jeff Sessions are getting their hands on the states voter rolls.
Democrats need to stop agreeing with anything the Republicans suggest. Clean voter registration rolls? Who cares. The more names the merrier. So what if the cat is registered to vote, he isn’t going to. All those illegal aliens, they aren’t going to vote, they just want drivers licenses, the last thing they need is voting and getting caught by the brownshirts of ICE.
Why is Lyin’ Sessions still AG?
Come on ACLU and others, that’s what I say.
Our advocates do the fighting for us and with us.
The sleazebag suppressors have no issue being sleazebag suppressors so shall we have no issue exposing what they are and stopping it.
Sessions lied to be confirmed and everyone knew he was lying and what his agenda truly was. Now here he is doing exactly what he said he wouldn’t.
The little dweeb lies, that’s a given and we can’t wait for him to follow through with his dream of a ‘pure’ nation that only votes as he sees fit.
Nipping his plan in the bud is the best plan of action. Then deporting him back to the land of the Keeb where he came from, that’s my best idea.
“Senator Warren was giving a lengthy speech,” McConnell said. “She had appeared to violate the rule. She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted.”
But how much damage will be done before then?
I have faith in Mueller and with Dems on House & Senate committees, but I do believe we are in a race against time with crap like this trying to march forward so quickly.
Or just put one of the KKK dunce hoods on him.
We need an easy way for voters to check their status before an election. Perhaps a democratic election commission can handle this, archiving all rejections and working with those who are rejected to minimize obstacles.
I don’t even want to think.
The problem being that the Republicans are just fine with it all as it preserves their stranglehold on the government.
They have no interest in fair elections
Thumb on the scale always
Domestic or Foreign thumbs they don’t care one whit
Winning at any cost
DOJ can move now with a racist at the helm.
