Former President Barack Obama is expected to hit the campaign trail this fall to advocate for Democratic candidates running for the House, Senate and in gubernatorial races, CNBC reported late Wednesday.
I'm dubious we'll see him on the trail with any great frequency. He'd help a lot if he ceaselessly criss-crossed the country, approaching various select races as if he himself were running for office. 100 appearances starting now through Election Day.
DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH.
Those bashing President Obama for staying silent have a LOT of audacity.
We black voters didn’t forget idiots like Rachel Maddow and her fake Oval Office lecture.
I remember Ed Schultz being on MSNBC telling white liberals not to vote
in the 2010 midterms cause Obama made a compromise deal to keep the
government open. Ed now shills for a Russian owned outlet.
Obama literally said during his victory speech in 2008 that the hard work wasn’t done and just beginning and white liberals instead listened to Bill Maher wanting a more “gangsta” President in his first term. it’s annoying the crap out of me.
Watching folks rewrite the history of Obama’s first term. He went after Healthcare against all odds and with FIERCE opposition, sometimes from his own party.
That “super majority” people like to quote was filled with “Blue Dog Democrats” who might as well been republicans.
Didn’t help that white liberals expected Obama to literally undo not just 8 years of terrible policy by Bush but…let’s be real, terrible policies from Bill Clinton.
Let’s also remember
- It wasn’t Obama but blue dog democrats against
the public option in health care - Democrats actively ran AWAY from
Obama in the midterms
You don’t get to blame Obama for not saving a party that actively ran
away from his help.
Maddow and her likes treated Obama like a boy. We didn’t forget.
Imbeciles like her and her ilks always want someone else to clean up their messes.
NOTHING Obama did was ever good enough for smug racist fake “ally” like Bernie Sanders. We remembered in 2016 and we will again in 2020…
Obama was forced to use executive orders cause you vocal white liberals didn’t
vote in midterms. Then when given another chance in 2016, you crapped the
bed again and this isn’t me saying Obama was perfect. He’s a US President. of course he has all the issues that come with that
but i’m tired of seeing folks completely rewrite history and act like Democrats didn’t shoot themselves in the foot by running away from him in 2010. Wendy Davis comes to mind. We did NOT forget.
Obama told Democrats “vote for Healthcare reform and I’ll be there to
help you” and Democrats instead blinked when the Tea Party came and ran
away from him
They got wiped out while he then coasted to another victory in 2012
One of those 60 votes for Democrats was literally an Independent that ACTIVELY CAMPAIGNED FOR JOHN MCCAIN AGAINST OBAMA and then changed his mind on the public option cause “liberals were too happy”. His name is Joe Lieberman. We did NOT forget.
President Obama owes the BernieOrBust and JilNotHill crowd NOTHING. They are scum.
We WON’T forget that SABOTEUR Bernie Sanders either in 2020.
Go clean up your own mess because Obama is not your work mule or your slave.
This will have some good impact, especially since people have been starved for his presence!
According to three sources familiar with the matter who spoke with CNBC, Obama will operate off the guidance of Democratic leadership — House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).
This is the worrying part. I wouldn’t go to Schumer for advice on which subway train to catch. I’d get lost.
from NY Magazine
Where is the man who cried after Sandy Hook and sang in Charleston, who after each mass shooting tried to soothe an outraged nation, who spoke of American values in his travels across the globe? And, tactically, what is behind the relative silence of one of the most popular figures alive just as American politics appears to so many to be on the brink of breaking?

He campaigned last year
Oh good grief, not everyone follows the news like we do here at TPM. Most people don’t even pay attention to elections until September, especially mid terms no matter how vital they are.
Give them a chance.
Geez, moody moody we are today. I get it everyone is upset from yesterday’s Kennedy announcement, but he told us he was going to retire earlier this year, we knew it was coming.
I know we are all tired and angry after a year and half of hell on wheels but we have to keep on keeping on…or else. So please…let’s stay together and stay focused. I myself promise to refrain from sniping at the Bernie bots anymore after this one last time.
Maybe, but I still say Susan Sarandon makes Clementine look like a saint.
Damn, I had to delete my comment in order to be nice.
Narrative ≠ Facts.
NOTHING Obama did was ever good enough for smug racist fake “ally” like Bernie Sanders. We remembered in 2016 and we will again in 2020
“Remembered”? As in “I voted for Trump to hurt you”?
Look, at the moment this is to nobody in particular and it could probably apply to most threads today but from now until Election Day can we just try to quell any impulse to sour, querulous defeatism at any mention of any prominent Democrat whatsoever? This shit is serious and sour defeatism isn’t quite the magic elixir of winningness people evidently think it is. They’re the home team, whatever deficiencies your keen mind has espied in them, and if we don’t just get on board and elect whoever’s running we are fucked. Anybody want to argue with me about that?
The Democratic base did not turn out to vote in 2016 as it did for Obama and that includes blacks… Almost two million black votes cast for Obama in 2012 did not turn out for Clinton. In one example if in North Carolina blacks had turned out for Clinton as they had for Obama, she would have won the state.
There’s enough blame to go around as to why she lost, why his support weakened after he left office, but he will show up when party leaders think it’s time, and the time is not in the middle of the summer when voters are vacationing and not are not yet fully engaged in thinking about midterm elections.
So you can trash TV talkers but you forget to give props to another one who did support BO fully and vocally and still does, Lawrence O’Donnell. But when 40% of eligible voters don’t turn out, the problem is bigger than TV talkers,
The only thing a lot of people here like better than trashing R pols is trashing their own party’s pols. So, yeah, trash the leader in the Senate. I’ll check later to see how you trash Pelosi. Or any other Dem poll with seniority.
You know, it really chaps my butt when I hear folks getting down on President Obama for not getting out on the stump for Dems. First, he DID work like a g*ddamn mule to get out the vote for H. Clinton. Second, he might be calculating that going out on the stump might cause more backlash than positive results. Look, the incentive to get out and vote should be on us, the voters, regardless of our leaders.
The phrase “a day late and a dollar short” leaps to mind.
Well, Trump would wear out his smart phone by tweeting lying trash about Obama. That much is certain. The Trumpazoans are always jacked up on resentment and grievances. Obama’s entering the fray at the right time. September is when folks will start to think about the election. Heck, our AZ primary is on August 28th. September feels about right to me.
