Discussion: When Helsinki Froze Over: The West Wing Frenzy To Walk Back Trump’s Remarks

You are probably right. What we have to do is convince more and more people that this fall’s election is our opportunity to force a change.

Trump is a problem but the real problem is the Republican Congress that refuses to do its constitutional duty and provide a check on Trump.

His denial was very strong and powerful

…blaming his refusal to disavow Putin for the Russian hacking of the 2016 election on a grammatical error.

Which will totally explain it for his slavering base.

One word sums it all up:

Incoherent

Wha…?

Trump is treated indulgently. He is allowed to break laws, violate the Constitution, lie, profit from his office, mistreat others, hire the ill-qualified and abuse our system of checks and balances, all with the support of the GOP.

OMG they think the problem is with Mueller?? Putin is plotting his invasion through Europe and they’re worried about Mueller?? The world saw that presser. There is no coming back from that. The issue now is can we respond to what is about to happen?

I’m talking about the people close to him who deal with him day to day and have to try to keep him from hurting himself as much as they can. This has been extensively documented.

It’s been extensively documented because it’s not working very well. Even those close to him can’t actually punish him, so they give in or get fired.

LOL amen. But what can they do? Evidently Kellyanne was famous for offering him two non-disastrous options and letting him choose, so he thought it was his idea. Obviously what we’re seeing now is all the aftermath of the situation months ago where he decided he’d gotten good at this presidenting stuff and wasn’t going to listen to the more cautious voices any more.

Profiles in courage from Ryan, McConnell, Bolton, and Pence. Yeah, right. They are afraid of angering their paymasters, just as Trump is.

It’s one of the weird things about the presidency that the holder of the office functions as a head of state and a head of government. Dump is without a doubt the shitiest head of state ever seen in North America, but paradoxically that is where his only strength lies. He’s incapable of coming to grips with his role as head of government, which is why he’s too weak to abuse the county’s material power the way Bush the Lesser did.

Yes, that was self-evident.

Not precisely. What he said was what he wanted everybody else to believe.

He’s an idiot who can’t wrap his mind around changes.

It’s one thing when you are standing under a blue sky with one small cloud on the horizon to say there will be no rain. It is yet another to say it when you are standing under stormy skies but you are a total idiot when you say it standing under an umbrella when it is raining indictments.

Not for lack of trying. He appears to have tried to get us to invade Venezuela.

Can’t Trump have a massive heart attack? But then we’d have the zealot/stooge Pence. Such a disease is upon America.

Remember before the the summit how Trump laughably whined that he could get Moscow and people would say that he should have gotten St. Petersberg too, as though there was any chance in hell he would come home with either.

It’s more like he fellated Putin and people are saying he should have just bent over the desk too.

Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo . . . In a three-way Oval Office meeting

Clinton was impeached for a lot less than that.

…John Bolton reportedly thought the comments unwise…

As a crazed, militaristic neocon this muted reaction from John Bolton really surprises me. Bolton is a total loon, he has never shown an affinity with anyone at all let alone Vladimir Putin! Why is he tolerating a dunce like Trump!

Trump: Teacher, the dog ate my homework.
Teacher: Again?
Trump: Um, different dog.
