Discussion for article #237316
Sean was too busy trying to figure out how he was going to try and shred the guests than bothering to show them the respect (and professionalism) of taking care to pronounce their names correctly.
Obscenity Hannity butchers the truth on an unfailing, regular basis–so mispronouncing a surname is a petty infraction hardly worth mentioning.
why can’t we all be Irish? those Welsh names don’t have enough vowels anyway.
Why did these poor people even bother going on his show? Apparently (I hope) they didn’t know what an asshole he is.
Probably a very sweet producer asked them very nicely.
Oh FFS—pronunciation of unfamiliar names is a simple preparation thing every professional broadcaster know how to handle. I’m tempted to think it wasn’t accidental, as hard as that would be to believe.
There are a lot of things to criticize Hannity for. This isn’t one of them. Happens to everyone, probably even to the person who wrote this snarky piece and those reading it.
In news organizations that aren’t dedicated to to the proposition that the only people who count are old angry white conservatives, talking heads are always given a heads up to ask in advance and practice at the break and/or a piece of paper or teleprompter cue with phonetic pronunciations.
In the news organization whose viewers entirely believe that most of “Those People’s” problems are caused by their refusal to act “normal” and give their kids “real, normal” names, that doesn’t happen.
Former broadcaster here. This is the height of unprofessionalism. You get the pronunciation before you start the segment.
Always get the basic stuff right. There are plenty of other variables that you CAN’T control, so you do your homework and make sure that which you CAN control is correct.
Of course, these are brown people on Fox whose opinions differ from the network line, and so not worthy of that kind of respect.
Hannutty plays it like that.
Sean has two posts on TPM right now. HIs ratings must be down.
Funny how Sean says the cop can’t know what the kids are planning to do, but Sean can watch the video and know what they are planning to do. Also wonder why none of the other cops did anything like what that one did?
Bingo. If you don’t know, ask. it’s not impolite to admit you dunno how to pronounce a name that is foreign to you. This was a deliberate insult.
I’m with you to a point. I draw the line at “Plaxico” though haha
I react the same way to every minute of Fox programing.
Hannity is a horse’s ass, but even Key and Peele acknowledge the problem of made-up names with hard to grasp phonetics.
So, in other words…names.
I don’t understand why those people can’t just have normal names, like Reince, Track, or Trip.
Hannity keeps trying to point out that Casebolt drew his firearm when the two kids approached from behind. Just some observations: The kids aren’t behind, but to the side of him; Casebolt gets up, and puts his hand out, but by the time he draws his firearm the kids are clearly out of the way; and lastly, Casebolt proceeds to go after them long after they’ve cleared the area. That’s what I’m seeing. Hannity’s defense of Casebolt here is a completely forced narrative.
I wonder if Key and Peele, the men not the comedy act, would actually would cosign your statement.
