Discussion: Whataburger Employee Fired After Refusing To Serve 2 Texas Cops

Discussion for article #240662

“Law enforcement officers are getting tired of this stuff.”

I know how you feel. It’s sort of like how black people are tired of getting shot by police.

If only they had used a religious excuse…it is Texas, right?

Yeah…I’m sure it happens a lot.

“Law enforcement officers are getting tired of this stuff.”

Yeah? Cuz this is the first I’ve heard of it. Imagine how tired of “this stuff” you’d be if you were a minority stuck in the inner city or living in a shithole like Mississippi or South Carolina after 250+ years of slavery, segregation and rampant oppression and the continuing, lingering presence of widespread racist sentiment and white supremacy belief in our country, which just experienced an 7-year-long tantrum spike due to the election of a black man as POTUS. “Tired of this stuff”…HA! Two words: Unmitigated Gall.

That being said, as funny as what the kid did was, it’s still not ok and is totally counterproductive to the cause.

We don’t serve police officers."

Notice, the guy said he was kidding, and that he immediately explained it to the cops.

Notice, I said cops, but he actually said police officers.
What self respecting dissident would say police officers?

The cops overreacted.
They couldn’t shoot him so they did the next best thing. Got him fired.

The unnamed employee, who was fired by the company, told local ABC affiliate WFAA the comment was meant as a joke, which he tried to explain to the officers before they left.

“I thought, ‘Oh man, this is a shame – all over a joke,’”

Never assume a cop can recognize a joke.

or a 14 year-old with a homemade clock.

or a 12 year-old with a BB gun.

or…

“We were just kind of in shock,” he said. “Law enforcement officers are getting tired of this stuff.”

With a bit of thinking it’s easy to see the internal conflict in that bullshit. If it happens enough that you are sick of it just how shocked could you be by it?

And does this happen often? Hell no. I suppose what shocked them was they weren’t given the food…as in without charge. But just check out that attitude. They are sick of this…but no one else suffering the same thing can be?

There was a bar/restaraunt I used to go to in GA years ago. They had the typical problems of an occasional drunken fight every 3 or 4 months, an even worse problem with the girls from the nail salon next door offering to give hummers in the parking lot for $50, and of course…the place being routinely patrolled to hand out DUIs.

So the manager got this crazy idea of offering the police free meals. Of course, they gladly took him up on the offer, sitting their lazy asses down inside for 2+ hours every day (while leaving their cars running outside the entire time to keep the AC on…I kid you not), watching to see who was at the bar, and the following them outside to start giving sobriety tests in the parking lot. I guess as a thank you for the free meals.

The problem with the girls offering BJs was curtailed however. The cops basically started demanding free ones from a few and that chased the others off. So…progress?

Aha - here’s the smoking gun that proves that there’s a war against the cops!

A certain percentage of people in all professions are assholes but I’d guess cops might have a higher percentage because they are attracted to the power they are given in the first place and then they get used to having it and get worse.

Right ON about that AC shit. Years ago I went into a convenience store and noted an Police SUV in the parking lot running with no one in it. Its Florida so its hot. There was a Cop inside looking a nudie mags so I confronted him on what his official duties were and the waste of gasoline in the parking lot. That asshole went off! He made a ton of threats and became so enraged the store clerk called the Sheriff’s office ( the cop I was arguing with was a Jax Beach cop ). The clerk told the Cop what he had done so I went into provocation mode and when the Deputy showed up the cop had me backed up against the freezer with his gun in his hand. He was taken out in cuffs and I received an apology.

It was fun.

How’d you get so lucky?

Oh yeah. You’re white, right?

Aaaah those poor coppers. Didn;t get your usual free meal - huh!!

Good thing you are white

I’m pretty sure the thing they’re getting tired of is this business of people continuing to act like they think they’re citizens of a free country and cops are public servants rather than behaving as cowed, servile, cringing subjects of some corrupt, dystopic tyranny.

I watched the GOP debates last night and those candidates think Whataburger should make accommodations for the teenage employee who doesn’t think serving cops is in his conscience. Wait, what? See this is fun you Republican Freaks!

Lesson: don’t joke with cops. They might not see it that way.
