They are looking for that sweetspot between reasonably-priced, comprehensive medical care and the climax of a Saw movie.
Go ahead. Shoot yourself in the foot. And btw, medical treatment for that is probably not covered in your so-called plan.
Essential benefits, guaranteed maternity care, treatment for mental health disorders or opioid addiction, lifetime and annual caps – these are just bargaining chips to the Republicans.
Meanwhile, the health and well-beirg – and lives – of millions of Americans lie in the balance.
Is anyone else as disgusted as I am by the sausage-making of these ghouls?
I was wondering why no one is bothering to mention that the Republicans are rushing to do something in two months that they said should not be done in 14 months. I get it now, Trump wants to kill Obamacare TODAY- the seventh anniversary of its signing into law.

Seems to me the only practical alternative to the ACA is single-payer. In my fantasy world this is what the Dems would be running on in 2018 and 2020. Go ahead republicans, totally screw-up our country’s healthcare system. We’ll fix your mess by expanding Medicare to cover everyone.
All the hype and conservative BS about freedom which leaves out, uh, empathy, caring about our fellow citizens and ourselves, taking care of those in need, our elders, using our vast resources to actually protect and defend the public without which there is no “private”. How about those freedoms?
I’ve always said that in the present U$, we will NEVER be allowed to have a single payor system which cuts out all the profit until we defeat the conservative ideology. But they’ve “won”. The time is now to have a new “justice” Democratic representatives, or we can just all get sick or die, literally, for lack of health care in the “greatest country on Earth”. Or be diverted by all the screaming, scamming disease vectors like tRump and the sycophantic Republican ass kissers while the new climate on Earth takes 99% of us out. Kind of our choice.
But no despair. Take action, call, write, protest, and don’t fear emotion as part of our value framing. We can be grateful for our progressive heritage and use it.
Letting these guys try to work out healthcare policy is like letting my 4 year old grandson cut his own birthday cake - it is guaranteed to be a mess, he is going to cut way too big a piece for himself and there is a very good chance he will hurt himself in the process. These idiots do not understand healthcare, they do not understand insurance, they do not understand macro-economics, and their main goal at the end is to give the donor class a big fat tax cut that they do not need - what could go wrong?
They don’t care to understand it. The reason for the charade, which has absolutely nothing in conservative ideology to do with health care for people, is private profit for the insurance corporations and almost a TRILLION DOLLARS for the .1% ultra special rich who need the extra money to prep their disaster mansions half a mile deep in caverns of salt. They’ll then have it all, oh except the actual Earth as we know it. All fake, virtual reality on screens, and they can revel in having destroyed life on the only planet we have. But Hey, they’re surely the good people vanquishing the bad people. Whatever garbage they pass today and in coming weeks and months will not show the damage and throw the whole health care systems into the death spiral until after the next election.
This reinforces what I have been saying a lot about the GOP lately: as a governing party they are akin to a failed state. By governing party I mean a political party, however much one may disagree with them, that is nominally competent at administering the state and authoring and passing legislation.
The best you can say about what the Republicans are doing is that it’s not outright anarchy. That said, if a bill actually passes and is signed by the President it’s going to be full of half-baked ideas and unintended consequences that will result in chaos. It will serve as fodder for lawsuits for years on end.
Meanwhile, what the House is doing to the Senate is like the old prank of lighting a paper bag of dogshit on fire on your neighbor’s porch, ringing the doorbell, and hoping they come outside and stomp out the fire.

This will likely kill any possible insurance coverage of maternity/natal care. Since almost all pregnancies are planned, the only folks looking to have coverage will be those intending to have children; certainly, older families, single men and women and those unable or uninterested in having children won’t opt for maternity coverage. So essentially 95% of those opting for maternity coverage will be using it. For an insurance company to make profit on this, it would have to charge premiums that are at or above the actual cost of maternity care and services, making this a useless type of insurance. The only people in the United States who will then be having babies are those who can afford to pay for the medical care. The Republicans are idiots.
