Discussion: What To Expect The Public Will See From The Mueller Report

In other words, now that the damage to Clinton/Democrats is already done, the Justice department will go out of its way to protect Donald Trump and the Republicans.

The Double Standard is the GOP’s everyday suit.

Mueller has run his investigation like a submarine: silent, deep, and without leaks. Occasionally, he has torpedoed someone in the Trump campaign or their Russian allies with indictments, leaving the surface strewn with wreckage and flailing survivors. But once the investigation is completed, I think we’re likely to see details of it whether the powers that be in Congress or the Justice Department will it or not. Mueller’s investigative team will maintain discipline until the investigation is completed, but once the report is turned in, all bets are off.

I’m not sure what to think about this. After all, we do live in a Republic, and the layman wouldn’t know how to interpret the report.

OTOH, WTF!?!? How can the Dems possibly confirm this guy when he’s sending these signals. The last thing we need is for this mess to be covered up, and brushed over - which is EXACTLY what this guy wants to do.

Time to lean in on the impeachment process, House Democrats.

The DOJ is committed to slow-walking and delaying the release of any incriminating information about Trump and the GOP until it’s too late to do anything about it. Democrats are going to have to do their own investigation and prosecution to protect the country from these criminals and traitors.

Democrats won’t confirm him. Republicans will - confirming a new AG only requires a majority of votes in the Senate now.

Forewarned is forearmed, now that Mueller has a sense of what Barr is likely to do, hopefully he has some tricks up his sleeve.

But this is not an ordinary crime, it is treason. Why are we having this discussion in the first place? We can’t trust the Attorney General to defend the United States?

as a former submariner I endorse this post.

IMO how much we see will be inversely proportional to how how bad the GOP comes off in the report. The Starr report was released in its entirety, for a minor offense compared to what we are learning about now. The public should see the FULL report, less any redaction required for national security purposes (and those should be made by a joint committee of the house and senate)

“If you’re not going to indict someone, you don’t stand up there and
unload negative information about the person. That’s not the way the
department does business.”

Unless that person is a Democrat.

Barr has been clear that he doesn’t think a President can be indicted, so really he has said that he will not release information in the report about Trump. "Barr made it clear that he had no interest in divulging damaging information about individuals who are not going to face charges. Referencing James Comey’s July 2016 announcement about the Hillary Clinton email investigation, Barr told the Senate Judiciary Committee, “If you’re not going to indict someone, you don’t stand up there and unload negative information about the person. That’s not the way the department does business.”

Bear in mind that Mueller has shared information with federal attorneys in the SDNY, as well state and local prosecutors offices in D.C., Maryland, New Jersey, and New York.

So I wonder what pieces of the report will flow from these offices that are not as airtight as the OSC?

One possibility: As the the Watergate SP did, Mueller could have the grand jury to send its (non)indictments directly to the House for consideration of impeachment. Or, he could weave the relevant narrative into his penultimate indictments of Junior, Jarvanka, et. al. But as you say, ultimately if legal back doors fail, I think someone in DoJ or Congress would leak the whole thing.

Ultimately, I think the “deep state” will save the country. Having read the Trump administration’s complaints about the “deep state”, I have come to the conclusion that deep state to them means “patriotic Americans who are heavily invested in the Constitution and the rule of law”. In other words, the Trump Administration’s worst nightmare. From this perspective, the “deep state” is simply the incorruptible backbone of America. While the forces of evil and destruction represented by the Trump administration may make gains in the short term, ultimately the deep-rooted beliefs in America’s historical core values will see them repulsed.

My thinking all the way through this process, the special prosecutor, was and is that if someone tries to keep the report confidential, that Mueller has ways already in place to dump it into the public news-feed. That would make sense and would fit with what we know of Mueller and his mission. Once you uncover the mess, it isn’t going to be possible to keep it under wraps.

Sen. Booker released all those Kavanaugh documents – any chance he could do it again for Meuller’s report?

Schiff can have Mueller come speak publicly to his committee if he has to.

What we’re seeing now is a do-nothing Democratic Congress that is failing to begin impeachment proceedings despite a convincing and growing amount of public evidence of high crimes and misdemeanors.

The time to start is now. It is only going to get worse. We don’t need to wait for the report.

And then Gorsuch and Kavenaugh should be impeached.

Fuck Barr. Mueller has been stashing his evidence in safe places all over town. His report is already as good as public - it’s just a matter of timing the release.

The other day on the EmptyWheel a commentor suggested that voting machines could’ve been hacked by the Russians and someone responded with a lecture about how dangerous it was to believe that without evidence. That to believe the votes could be changed would destroy the trust of the American people in our gov’t. I say the same thing–that we will be truly fucked as a nation if our gov’t tries to keep the truth from us. Our gov’t failed to protect us in 2016–I’m sorry to say that–and if they don’t fix it with the truth-not a fucking wall but the simple goddamned truth- we will be ruled by conspiracy theory until we are no longer America.
