Discussion: What To Expect In A Partial Government Shutdown

HAHa. TOURists won’t be able TO VISIT LIBturd LEANing science MUSEUms in a SHUT down so THEY won’t be needlessly exPOSED to “theories” of EVOLUTion and ROUnd earth.

The people and the party of gov’t prefer the gov’t remain running. The party of reaction and stupidity takes negotiations past the brink and forces shutdowns again and again. They never get their demands while, quite rightly, getting the blame every time. They did this even before they had an absolute imbecile as leader. Yet they never learn.

Today will be the shortest time of non-exposing … because of the solstice ----

But starting tomorrow …
the nonexposination will become longer … and longer … every day —

Congress continues to be paid during a shut down. They don’t care. The next election is more than a year. THE GOP DOESN’T CARE. Why is anyone surprised that the GOP will follow trump over a cliff?

I’m not sure what we can do in the interim. I don’t think people will take to the streets during Christmas and New Year holidays. We can always email/fax senators and reps, but who’s there to read or answer them?

Who’s got good cartoons to cheer up the place?

Now, as House speaker himself, Ryan is struggling to head off a shutdown just days before his long-announced retirement.

In your freakin’ dreams, AP. He couldn’t care less.

Don’t forget the political commercials that will bring the GOP down even more.

Mike Lukovich will undoubtedly have great cartoons this week.

I wish we had the same proviso that the French have (had?). If you can’t reach a new budget, once the fiscal deadline is reached the government is then funded as it was the previous year. None of this temper tantrum, holding the nation hostage bullshit. I really hate the GOP.

In a 1995-96 political battle…Republicans were saddled with the blame, but most Americans suffered relatively minor inconveniences like closed parks and delays in processing passport applications.

Some major glossing-over going on here. The shutdown was a major clusterfuck that made people realize they actually do like government.

They’re gonna need to give him his own section and an expense account for art supplies pretty soon.

Does this mean Mar-A-Lago shuts down?

I agree. A awful lot of revisionist history in that sentence.

The next House’s first and every stab at a continuing resolution should be a 2 year CR for the Army, because of the Constitutional limit, and a 37 year (or some suitably large prime number) CR for everything else.

Also, every appropriation should explicitly authorize Treasury to borrow what’s needed to spend what’s legislated. No more debt ceiling either.

Trump is throwing a tantrum. Paul Ryan enabled the tantrum and the Senate won’t pass the tantrum. So the chaos continues as the U.S. looks more crazy to the world by the day. No one is governing as long as the GOP enablers are cowering.

As an additional kick to federal employees- tRump gave Monday as a holiday, but a shutdown means that furloughed employees lose holiday pay for Monday AND Tuesday.

Republicans suck at governing. They complained that Obama didn’t submit budgets. When he did, they continued to run the government on CRs. This Congress passed a budget, and has yet to appropriate money to some departments, so we continue to operate on CRs.

During the busiest travel week of the year, Trump forces 100,000 TSA and Customs personnel to work for free because he didn’t get money he wants for his pet project. As someone who has to travel this week, fuck you President* Trump.
