Right on target, Rick. While the Court held that Ross had the authority to add the citizenship question, this was an APA case, and all he had to do was give the reason. i.e., all he had to do was honestly say why he wanted that question. The lengths Commerce and Justice went to in order to come up with a legitimate sounding reason was too much even for Roberts.
So, what’s the remedy for this? “Hey, take another crack at it.” They obviously can’t give the honest reason, because that would be a violation of the Equal Protection Clause. So what are they gonna do? Think about it: we’re still talking about the original reason from 2017. Can they change history? Wouldn’t that leave some of the officials who testified subject to a perjury charge from a future Justice Dept?

Mitch McConnell should begin impeachment proceedings against John Roberts for violating the Republican Party’s trust, for being disrespectful to President Skanky-Manslut and his family and for being disloyal to President Putin. John Roberts should be sent to a christian conservative re-education camp in some cold frigid place so that he better understands conservative values, the law and the constitution. That will make the Supreme Court reconsider the census question more fairly than it already did.
Finding a new rationale = making shit up. That’s the Trump regime’s forte.
