Discussion for article #232548
Am I at the Huffington Post?
Ron Jeremy is the king of porn, not some upstart young pretty boy.
Or Salon?
I don’t recall ordering Cinemax…
OK. I succumbed to the titillation of the headline, too. But the column didn’t even deliver on that. What did she learn? That if men think you’re a stripper or a porn star they feel free to put a their hands on your back? Stop the presses!
Really Josh. This is on the page right next to a very thoughtful analysis of how Bibi’s Boehner gambit provides a peek into the dangerous fantasy world in which some at the top of the Israeli hierarchy live. The gravity of that is diminished by the frivolity and pointlessness of this.
I disagree. I think it complements it very nicely. Life has many dimensions to it.
If you really want some insight into AVN and the porn industry, David Foster Wallace’s “Big Red Son” is an excellent story: http://social.rollins.edu/wpsites/sexwarandplague/files/2012/07/DF-Wallace-Big-Red-Son.pdf
I appreciate the follow-up to a very good article from back in the day.
Also, “Baby Fillmore.” Hehe.
And here I thought you had lost a step Josh. Good one.
Yep, “Baby Fillmore” is inspired.
Fewer things are more depressing than a woman assuming an “alt” perspective and going on to legitimate exploitation and abuse. When she watched the porn stars “dance” at the club, did she stop to interview them about why they felt they needed the money? If the industry is so massively popular and their fans are so loyal, surely they don’t need to shake it at the nearby road house for loose change. Or, alternately, if they are paid handsomely to attract customers, does the largess trickle down to the girls at the bottom of the chain? Come on. Romanticizing porn really should not be woman’s work.
And here’s a news flash - men in the industry are exploited too. Being a young man whose cocksmanship is one’s stock in trade might be cool for a while, but he’s as much a piece of meat as anyone else. And given the value he supposedly adds, there’s no way he’s receiving commensurate payment.
These days, Ron Jeremy is the Kings of Porn.
Ever talked to a stripper or porn star? They have higher job satisfaction rates than most mainstream jobs. And they need or want the money for the same things everyone else needs and wants money for.
Romanticizing sex work and demonizing sex work. Two sides of the bias coin.
The name, Talking Points Memo, lead me to believe that this was a focused political news, political analysis, and political commentary web site. Yes, life does have many dimensions to it, but Buzz Feed and their ilk all ready have that covered. So can we expect an article on whether men should go commando or keep wearing underwear?
Exactly! That’s exactly went through my mind. Please TPM, spare us.
This was a vapid article. My take away was that she was slightly caught off guard by being continuously objectified, but at the end of the day she sort of enjoyed that attention. Hard hitting. Breaking news at 11, Luke Perry reminisces about teenage girl adulation of the 90’s!
If this were a good feature story I’d agree, but it’s not. It’s a vanity piece by someone who wants everybody to know how cool she was; attending the porn awards with an actual porn star. She even worked her tattoos and her purple hair into it, for Pete’s sake. In terms of quality, it’s not in the same universe as your Israel analysis.
(in) Today('s journalistic landscape), we are all Huffington Post.
Irony: A woman who calls a flight attendant a “stewardess” complains about being objectified at a porn event.
