Discussion: WH Urges People To Call NYT And Ask For Name Of Op-Ed Writer

"It’s a Barnum and Bailey world, just as phony as it can be. . . "

Without a comic strip, the NYT is a non starter.

The shocking thing is that the President and WH are using their bully pulpit to attack a media outlet and interfere with its operation.
We are so inured to Trumpf’s attacks that it’s almost expected. And it’s made even scarier by his over the top supporters who may hear this as the signal to take down the media by any means possible, including violence.
How is this ok in any way?! Is this the new ‘normal’?

TPM reports

https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/homeland-security-proposed-regulations-terminate-flores-agreement

Trump administration said Thursday it is abandoning a longstanding court settlement that limits how long immigrant children can be kept locked up, and it is proposing new regulations that would let the government detain families until their immigration cases are decided.

P.S. I watched The Big Sleep last night and not for the first time, don’t think I’ll ever understand it.

It’s the culmination of two years-plus of shouting “Fake news!” to rubes in arenas.

O’Donnell’s well thought out explanation of why he thinks it’s likely Pompeo or even more likely Coats was so credible it has Coats saying “not me!” But yeah, the writer should own up, face the moron, hand in his resignation and ask what’s he going to do about it except go into tweet overdrive. Of course, once the rubes learn there’s somebody named Dan Coats working in the admin, they too will go into outrage overdrive.

From CREW’s Norm Eisen’s new book and his thoughts on democracy as a child of a Holocaust survivor.

Are you optimistic about the progress of American democracy?

Eisen: I am the child of a Czechoslovak survivor of the Holocaust and Communism, who went back to live in a house once occupied by the Nazis and Soviets representing the most powerful nation on earth. How can I not be an optimist!

So, for me, jokes aside, this regime is temporary and we scare ourselves shitless and witless by imagining the worst.

“New York Times.”

“Yes, I wants to know who rote that fake news editorial against the prezident.”

“Certainly. Can I please have your name?”

“Why?”

“Oh, we’re just checking requests against our subscription database. We’re curious to know how many callers are subscribers. This helps us estimate how many people making this request are likely to have actually read the editorial.”

Click.

I had no clue to who he was until the rise of Trump. Now I check on him frequently for gritted teeth snark he flings. It is a morale booster. Particularly since he comes from the other side of the aisle.
