I heard Debbie Ramirez used to work for Fidel Castro. Just sayin’…
If they’re “open” to Ramirez testifying along with Blasey Ford, they should “welcome” an FBI investigation to get the truth.
Oh yeah, Deep State FBI out to get Trump and all connected with him …
with the truth.
It’s a little worrisome. There’s no judge to control the questioning, and Grassley as chair won’t do a thing. There well may be an orchestrated attack during the session. I hope Diane and co. are willing to jump in as needed. This looks like a show trial, not an investigation.
Only because they know it will not happen.
Bring it on! The more the merrier.
Of course, Ms. Ramirez won’t testify because she’s on record doubting her own story, admitting that she has no personal knowledge of the assault she claims to have suffered and conceding that she was in a drunken stupor at the time. If she were to appear before the Judiciary Committee her testimony would only serve to undermine Dr. Ford, making Ford’s story look even more like a despicable, baseless, politically motivated smear than it already does. Far better one bad witness than two witnesses, one bad and the the other an epic embarrassment. You can’t bolster a totally uncorroborated slander with another slander obviously fabricated for political purposes.
The left has no clue the damage it’s doing as it tramples every standard of fairness and decency in pursuit of a political win. It is shredding the social fabric. To sustain a political community and maintain government by the consent of the governed we need to have consensus about some basic moral principles. One of those is the principle that it is terribly wrong to seek political advantage by trafficking in defamatory allegations for which there is no substantial proof. That is precisely what the left is doing with Judge Kavanaugh. When you decide that you have no obligation to deal with your political opponents with the same decency and respect you demand from them, it becomes impossible to settle our differences through reasoned, orderly political processes. At that point we are on a glide path toward political violence and authoritarian government.
Just as the Republicans have covered themselves with shame in defense of Donald Trump, the Democrats are covering themselves with shame in opposition to Brett Kavanaugh. It is far from clear how the American idea can survive when organized politics at every point of the ideological spectrum has descended into morally and intellectually chaotic barbarism.
“certainly we would be open” to allowing the second woman"
Language tells all.
So if you are the victim of a crime for which there is absolutely no physical proof, nothing authorities can use to ascertain the veracity of your claims, you should keep your damn mouth shut about it in perpetuity. You’re just a victim without evidence, and it sucks to be you. You damn well better not breathe a word of your experience to anyone, for if it gets out you’re a trafficker in lies, peddling your story with an ulterior motive.
Got it.
Merrick Garland.
Thank you so much for your deep and heartfelt concern on this issue. I will copy it and send it to fair-minded and oh-so-moderate Senator Susan Collusions, and perhaps she can quote it in her upcoming tear-stained speech about how poor needle-dicked virgin Brett Kavanaugh is being ripped to shreds by the jackals of the Democrat Party. After all, what Brett Kavanaugh and Mark Judge did in their youth was nothing but an inexperienced teenaged boy’s misinterpreted version of “pillow talk”. Of course, they held the pillow over the girls’ faces while trying to pull their panties off, but still, boys will be boys! Also quite interesting how the mantra of “defamatory allegations for which there is no substantial proof” never seems to extend to some lower-class black teenager who gets shot in the back by a cop just for walking down the street. I guess it’s his own fault for not having a prep school education.
Well, stevie, you must admit he does prove one thing: a troll with a paid membership, a dictionary, and a thesaurus is still a troll.
Almost like sock-puppet has risen from the grave.
Good point
The idea of a political win would be nice right now. For a lot of people, they are seeing this as a fight for their way of life. The stakes at play are well pass simple politics.
So whether you judge the merits of these accusations as tactics versus a reality, understanding the mindset of those involved is critical.
Merrick Garland
Sorry if it looks like I was stealing your point, but we should be all be saying that as a response to any mention of decency from the GOP.
A troll can dream…
Oh stop being such a drama queen. That’s ridiculous hyperbole and you know it. I’m not “covered in shame” when I ask for a full and fair investigation, for all witnesses to be heard, for a full accounting to be made before we place a rabid, right-wing ideologue into one of the most important positions in the nation, a position where he will be impacting my life for potential three decades or more.
The left is insisting on that full investigation; the right is insisting that we do no investigation at all. And in your world, it’s the left that has “covered themselves in shame?” Get a fucking grip.
oopd, hit like by accidenr. fixed it though
It is clear the Republicans would LOVE to get Ramirez in the chair NOW and use the Senate hearing format to hammer her on the original challenges of memory she admitted to. SHE has steadfastly called for an FBI inquiry, but the GOP will never allow that. They want to attack her credibility hammer and tong Thursday and then use that to discredit Ford by association. Ramirez is making a big mistake if she agrees to participate in the hearing instead of an FBI investigation that includes questioning of everyone they can find who was involved or had heard of it long ago.
A side note, because Republicans are using Dr. Ford’s delay in testifying against her.
Doctor Ford delayed her testimony to give her time to drive to Washington. She prefers not to fly. Even if she does not have “fear of flying” can you imagine, her arrival at the airport, with the press waiting for her. Her arrival in DC with the press again waiting for her. She chose to drive across the country, it’s certainly more private. It must be quite a road trip.
