“Officials on both sides are still determining the format for the meeting or meetings, whether Trump and Kim will share a meal” - how do you like your Filet-O-Fish, Kim?
All of that comes as the U.S. formulates its strategies for the talks, including what the U.S. is prepared to give up and how precisely to define “denuclearization” on the Korean Peninsula — Trump’s stated goal.
What in the hell does Kim get out of dismantling and/or destroying his nuclear weapons? He's left with no nukes. Are we going to promise that S. Korea, Japan and any other belligerents representing a threat to N. Korea similarly won't have nukes stationed on their soils? So what, we can have bombers fly over N. Korea on a few hours notice, with OUR nukes. Kim may rule with an iron fist, but I fail to see his entire military apparatus going along with being gelded when the payoff is relaxed trade relations. What the hell is Kim's endgame?
WH has a massive Do-Do list … maybe they should concentrate on that ?
His main advice: “Try to find some private time between President Trump and Kim Jong Un.”
Don’t let them play golf. When Kim sees how much Trumpp cheats, he will go back home and make more missiles.
Trump is relying heavily on his top diplomat, Mike Pompeo, in preparing for the summit. Pompeo has met with Kim twice in Pyongyang, once as secretary of state and once as CIA chief, and has spent more time with the reclusive leader than any other American official.
You mean other than Dennis Rodman?
White House has a Massive To-Do List??? You gotta be kidding…HAHAHAHA DONT MAKE ME LAUGH!!! These people don’t prepare for ANYTHING. they will just show up for the summit. Seriously.
Celebrity status and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Also an end to sanctions and removal of American troops from the Peninsula, Recognition and respect as a world statesmen with nukes to back him up. To name just a few. He’s already gotten a lot of what he wanted.
Also key is what the U.S. will negotiate away.
“One thing that is unclear to us is what the U.S. is willing to negotiate in exchange for North Korea’s promises on denuclearization,” said Jean Lee, director of the North Korea program at the Woodrow Wilson Center. “The North Koreans are going to be armed and very ready to negotiate. The Trump administration needs to be ready as well.” (emphasis added)
What will they negotiate away? Everything.
Will the administration be ready? If it is, it will be a truly remarkable first.
@ralph_vonholst Kim, a noted film buff, will also want to five movie development deal and a spot on Dancing with the Stars.
They’ll manage to put put some tasteful flowers on the bull and paint its horns a nice pastel color before it’s released into the china shop.
As good as Trump is at duping the rubes I cannot see Kim keeping his nukes when the dust settles as an outcome Trump can explain away as a victory for his cause. He has stated many times N. Korea cannot be permitted to have nuclear weapons. Allowing him to keep some capable of harming our allies, yet justifying the half step because our shores are safe, isn’t going to cut it with very many people.
Except that Trump doesn’t appear to be bound by anything he says. He and Kim will have their little tete a tete, Trump will say some really stupid, but, one hopes harmless, things. There will be a joint communique saying that the talks were a successful first step. Kim will have gotten respect and recognition as a statesmen and, if he’s lucky, a peek down Melania’s blouse. Trump and Co. will declare it the biggest win ever and then, he’ll go off and stare directly into the sun for several minutes.
At the next awarding of the Nobel Peace prize Trump will react by saying he never wanted one of the damned things anyway, it’s awarded by a bunch or Euro-trash elitists. FAKE AWARD!!
