Winning or losing a shutdown is a matter of public perception. If Trump is seen as creating the shutdown he loses.

It really can’t be stressed enough how badly Trump continues to play his hand. Going back to the previous shutdown, it was a huge mistake for him to proclaim victory; since all he “won” was the ability to kick the can for a few more weeks. The more they insist they won the last shutdown, the more pressure they’ll have to “win” this one. But there’s no reason at all for Democrats to back down, since we gave them what they wanted last time and they blew it by stalling the whole time.
More likely than not, we’re just going to end up with some variation of the deal that was offered last time: A clean DACA bill in exchange for wasting money on the Wall and other symbolic concessions, and their supporters are going to realize that there was no victory last time. The longer they hold out, the more painful this will be for them.
There are clearly enough votes to override a veto.
And then play his I love me some shutdown tape OVER AND OVER AND OVER again. Start calling him Little Donnie Shutdown. Start saying flat out that Trump imposed a March 5 deadline PRECISELY to cause a shutdown. Because he has stated MANY MANY times he wants a shutdown. Say it OVER AND OVER AND FREAKING OVER AGAIN. For god sake it’s what the repubs are doing every god damn day.
