Discussion: WH Chases Moderate House Dems From Red States To Try To Pressure Pelosi

More than 62% of people polled favor the Dems against less than 40% favoring GOP/Trump. Leverage?

Someone should tell Donnie that when they say he is hot right now, it is in terms of radioactive.

Hard to see anyone wanting a piece of that action.

This ain’t Pauly Numbnuts and the Freedumb Caucus you’re dealing with here Cheeto. Pelosi knows how to wield the gavel, and if you want anything, you’ll have to deal with her.

Can’t you smell that smell?

Good luck with that one. And, maybe you could think up some more disparaging comments for Schumer and Pelosi, I’m sure they’ll come around to seeing it your way, you big looser.

There’s no reason for her to give in, and a big reason not to- the spoiled brat in the WH should not get his way on this.

Sitting here in red state Missouri, we have 8 Congressional districts, with only 2 Dems as Congressmen, who I’m sure are long time members of the Congressional Black Caucus, and they represent MO’s two largest cities. So who else is out there?

Who’s doing the chasing ? Mulvaney ? or is it “This is Steve Miller from the White House…< click>” ?

That’s a fantastic idea, Donnie. Let’s try that on moderate R’s and see where we end up.

Maybe we can peel some off who’ll call for a no-confidence vote (or something similar) for Uncle Mitch.

It is a move that is pretty conventional. I am surprised Trump would think of it. I don’t think it is going anywhere.

I was talking with a thoughtful Republican donor yesterday who threw up his hands and admitted Trump’s wall was baloney but wondered why the Democrats couldn’t just throw Trump a bone to help the country move on. The kind of resolve we are seeing from the Democratic leadership was surprising to him. He did wonder out loud if Chuck Schumer could be separated from Nancy Pelosi. I told him I didn’t think it was going to happen. He mumbled something about Trump should never have rubbed Schumer’s face in some victory Trump claimed. If you win you should be gracious.

He was surprised that we agreed we need border security, but the wall doesn’t enhance our border security. He was just willing to pay the 5 billion so Trump would settle down. “After all 5 billion isn’t much when compared to some of the dubious defense programs.”

This shutdown could end today, but it could go on for “months and years” because Trump has no easy path way to surrender.

And there’s the problem, border security is complex, Trump doesn’t do complex, can’t keep the details straight in his head. But then there’s the Trump base, a lot like him, can’t handle complex, and a wall is simple idea.

This is his brilliant “plan.”

I’m particularly incensed when Republicans try to portray this dispute as Democrats’ unwillingness to appropriate such a trivial amount as $5 billion.

In his last year in office, President Obama pushed for $1 billion to combat the Zika virus and $2 billion to address opiate addiction. The Republicans refused to take up the matter, calling it “wasteful spending.”

I can’t believe how inept and clueless Trump is. Sure, Trump, public opinion is increasingly opposed to the wall and the shutdown, but go ahead and try to peel off Democrats to do your bidding.

Or, in the words of a great American President, “Please proceed.”

I hope everybody realises that “compromise” is Republican speak for totally caving in to Trump’s 5.6 billion border wall demand !!

Let’s see, Democrats just took the House, largely because the public hates you, so let’s try to sway them to your side by pressuring them.

Yeah. Do that.

Especially since every possible negotiation move FROM HIS OWN PEOPLE … gets shot down by Trump.

Trump does not want to solve this
… if the Democrats said OK … you get the 5.6 - Trump would put something else on the table.

This Republican donor conveniently forgets Dems have put several deals on the table in the last two years equal to or superior to what Trump is asking for now. Idjit.
