Discussion: WH Argues President Has 'Broad Discretion' To Block Reporters, Including Acosta

I tend to think the fear of PP appointed judges is a bit overstated. I imagine many of these judges are Ivy Leaguers who view PP as some kind of loathsome oaf who is an accent and a wardrobe change away from being a character on Hee Haw. I still wouldn’t be surprised to find that’s exactly what Kavanaugh and Roberts think of him. Just because a judge is a PP appointee doesn’t mean he’s a PP supporter. Plus, once they’re on the bench, they’re free to do whatever they want to him and there’s nothing he can do about it but sulk.

I would prefer they keep doing their job, not react, not getting drawn in and keep reporting. Not that I think people understand what that means anymore, but when you have lost everything all you have left is your dignity and your beliefs.

Sometimes how you fall is all there is left.

my use was sardonic. :cold_sweat: That said, we are in much better shape, and I am much more optimistic today than last week. The D’s look like they will win 39 seats (and have a solid majority in the House, enough to allow some people to vote their districts on certain issues, yet still win the vote) and more importantly THE PRESS IS COVERING THEM!!!

90% of the problem was that “the press” simply paid little attention to what the democrats said/did, it was all †Я☭mp Yet, already the democrats are able to advance the issues they want, and start to drive the narrative.

†Я☭mp was getting away with things in darkness (or better said, the full scope of his evil and corruption was not known and broadcast outside of left wing media) and once that ends, and it already effectively has, it will be much harder for †Я☭mp to get away with things.

Did I want to take the senate? yes!!! But what is already a 7.1% margin the the congressional vote (a proxy for the presidential vote this year) which will likely grow to nearly 8% gives me hope. Coverage of †Я☭mp s corruption combined with a slowing economy and what we all know will be foreign set backs, will sink the party of †Я☭mp

Nope. We’re stuck with a Washington Press CORPSE that only lives to kiss Trump’s ass.

I know, and the fox watchers are saying they are leaving ,but, newsmax, and oan , and sinclair brodcasting are waiting in the wings to fill the ‘void’

I tend to be of similar mind. Even lickspittle Jeff Sessions, dirt be forever upon his name, was fundamentally a serious enough person to recuse himself in L’Affaire Russe.

Finley Peter Dunne, actually.

Even Trump knows that:

“Finley Peter Dunne is an example of somebody who’s done an amazing job and is getting recognized more and more, I notice,”

Who drafted this response? Because the whole bit about how permissible things may not be done for impermissible reasons is pretty foundational.

And we have been weakened in ways that we only see the tip of the iceberg of the damage done. The cancer of Trump and the fully culpable GOP will ripple for generations.

Not just by the federal judges, lost knowledge of non-partisan seasoned government workers jettisoned, or damage to the environment, and a thousand other things… but also by the norms destroyed and poisoned by this administration and GOP. Trust and willingness to get along has been shattered.

Without CNN, there would be no President Trump. Any utterance by Candidate Trump was literally “breaking news” on the network. It’s no wonder that the Trump campaign spent such low amounts on media buys throughout the '16 election. Why buy when CNN and company willingly provided hundreds of millions of dollars in free publicity? I’ll leave the legal analysis to others and just enjoy seeing the monster CNN and the others helped to create bite them on their ass.

I would argue that this situation is covered by Acosta’s First Amendment right to petition the government without fear of punishment or reprisal, since “petitioning the government” includes communication of one’s views on controversial issues.

Yeah that’s why the WH pulled Acosta’s pass.

I would argue that the entire situation is covered by the First Amendment guarantee that the government can’t regulate the free press.

Given that most, if not all, White House Press Briefings these days are mere exercises in stenography and covering lies, Acosta is probably better off without a WH Pass.

CNN should make a point of giving Acosta more time to criticize Dipshit Donald and do it from a vantage point where the WH is visible, until Acosta’s pass is returned. The Trump twitter tirades and press rants would be a joy to watch.
