Reporters first noticed the omission earlier this week and MSNBCâs Rachel Maddow even opened her show Tuesday night, suggesting the missing text was glaringly intentional.
Amending the official transcript does not negate Maddow's contention the original omission may have been deliberate.
curious as to why Putinâs admission that he directed his team to assist tRUmp is not a glaring headline:
"did you want President Trump to win the election? And did you direct any of your officials to help him do that?â
âYes, I did. Yes, I did.â Putin responded.
It was deliberate. And meant to deceive.
But I thought Putin didnât want Trump to win because Trump would be so darn tootinâ tough on Russia?!?
WH: âThe omission wasnât âmaliciousâ ⌠although we were hoping it would go unnoticed.â
âIntentionally Maliciousâ should be inscribed on Trumpâs tombstone.
[Or become the name of a rock band.]
So they tried, and people noticed, and they didnât get away with it. Makes you wonder about other transcript changes that didnât get noticed.
There is no way on earth that the omission was accidental, especially given Trumpâs upside-down-world tweet about how Russia will try to fix 2018 for Democrats.
Thank christ for Rachel Maddow and her tireless staff. She needs a thorough vacation when this is all over.
seconded.
Spankee is used to people not paying that much attention and/or is used to bullying people into accepting his version of reality.
He still doesnât understand that the game has changed.
Someone is going to have to keep checking this, because ten to one they try to redact again when they think nobodyâs paying attention.
I KNOW, RIGHT???
Why is this not the smoking gun admission of collusion? Why are the clumsy attempts to hide this admission not the biggest scandal on the front pages now?
The distractions are working. I donât give a shit how many garbled tapes have been exhumed from Cohenâs damp closet. Not unless they become useful evidence. Iâm going to ignore all the gossipy speculation until then.
But THIS BLATANT ADMISSION THAT PUTIN DIRECTED HIS STAFF TO HELP TRUMP WIN! This gets swept under the rug???!
Yep. I think itâs just so glaringly obvious that this happened that it doesnât even register anymore.
I donât think you can conclude from the transcript that Putin was responding to both questions in sequence. It is more likely that he repeated his answer to the first question regarding a preference for Trump as a lead in to his following explanatory statement, and then ignored the second question.
The repeated âYes, I didâ seems to have been the translatorâs repetition. Those commenters who understand Russian and listened to the presser agree that Putin only said âYes, I didâ once.
Also, calling Michael Avenatti, trouble in Ohio.
ETA. This is even more clear.
But Iâve heard from a number of Russian speakers who point out that Putinâs actual comments in Russian concerning who he wanted to win the election are much less ambiguous than the way they were translated. He seems to have not used the phrase Yes, I did once, let alone twice. Instead, in Russian, Putin roughly said, âYes, I wanted him to win, because he talked about the normalization of RussianâAmerican relations.â
He doesnt deserve a tombstone, more like a pay toilet over his head.
Maybe (?) not malicious, definitely intentional.
Watch out! People will start to believe their own eyes and question the endless chicanery of the Don and his goon squad.
Iâve been avoiding watching the damn things, partly because I canât stand the orange shit gibbonâs physical demeanor nor voice, but also partly because I donât want my schedule to dance to his puppet strings.
I may have to reconsider.
Weâre all gonna need a thorough vacation when this is all over.
