More of this please. They got the money they needed and the respect they deserve. It is a sad lesson of what might be for a divided nation.
The 5 percent raise the teachers will receive equals about $2,250 or $187.50 a month. Not exactly a windfall. But I suppose it’s better than the sharp poke in the eye all the other poor folk in West Virginia will soon get.

Justice… insisted… that there would be no damaging cuts to Medicaid or programs that help the poor.
It seems the Governor knows his Senate GOP is a box of dildos. Now why did he turncoat again back to the Rs?
Two lessons learned here:
- The value of teachers. Anybody that would argue that the teachers in WV were getting too much don’t understand what we teachers have to do on a daily basis. A colleague of mine once posted that if they paid us like babysitters, since most people think that’s all we do, then we should get somewhere close to six figures. The fact is, most of these teachers couldn’t afford a home or health insurance for their families without the pay raise. They deserve better.
- The power of unions and a united front. The fact that ALL WV teachers walked out shows the power when people are united for one purpose. Imagine the response if more people got involved on other issues like gun control, health care, taxes, etc.
