Discussion: West Virginia House Impeaches Justice Over Office Renovations Scandal

Just wondering…what has the state court been up to to earn such ire, or are the state reps actually doing their job?

Some of this appears plausible (although the article TPM ran on the indictment suggested that some of it might have been, uh, particularly zealous), but it’s a reminder that grounds for impeachment are whatever the lower house says they are.

Funny how far afield they had to go for a presiding judge.

Could someone let Paul Ryan know that this is how things are done?

With even the justices of the WV Supreme Court throwing around money like this … well, it’s a good thing Trump brought back all those coal mining jobs so there will be some extra tax revenue to pay for it all.

Loughry, who wrote a 2006 book chronicling West Virginia political corruption, was indicted in June on 23 counts of mail fraud, wire fraud, lying to federal law enforcement, witness tampering and obstruction of justice.

Everybody else thought he was writing a historical book, but really it was a how-to…

And in case anyone is wondering, the A. James Manchin to whom a reference is made was the uncle of WV’s current Democratic US Senator

To the tune of Give Me That Old Time Religion:

Give me that old time corruption, give me that old time corruption,
Give me that old time corruption, its good enough for me.
It was good for EPA’s Pruitt, it was good for EPA’s Pruitt,
It was good for EPA’s Pruitt, its good enough for me.

What makes you think Paul Ryan cares how to do things?

I’m not sure how to score this one. Blame immigrants? Federal regulations? High corporate tax rates? Crummy trade agreements? Obama wouldn’t release his transcripts?

Oh, wait, I know: this moral failure is a direct result of kicking God out of the classroom.

It’s West Freaking Virginia! A pretty poor state. What were these morons thinking of with any 6 figure renovation that involved inlaid floors and fancy furniture? Impeachment is too kind. How many stints in drug rehab could this ‘renovation’ pay for?

I was wondering… thanks for looking that up!

Right? All that tax money to pay for necessary inlaid floors. Not medical care of job programs.

Thats interesting, assuming the legislators are self-proclaimed fiscal conservatives. So there’s really man’s law at the top, then god’s law, right?
