What’s wrong with the governor appointing a man he can trust?
For a conservative, nothing is more beautiful to behold than old school nepotism. As long as that friend is not that much worse than a boofer or a rapist, he is fully qualified to be a Supreme Court justice. The Great State of Alabama had christian conservative pedophile as Chief Justice for multiple terms. Alabama turned out just fine.
Probably unlike the others commenting here, I’m a lawyer practicing in Charleston, WV and know all the parties involved. Our Governor is a goof who wants nothing more than to sell his hotel, The Greenbrier, to Trump. He’s actually only a part-time Governor. The real Governor is his chief of staff, who is a conservative ex-media guy. Kind of like the Fox folks who now people the White House. The appointment of Hutchison is a political one, everything involved with the WVSCA is political. Having said that, Hutchison is a very qualified guy and he will be a good justice. He’s been a respected Circuit Ciourt Judge (our trial court) for years. The real travesties were the previous appointments of Armstead and Jenkins. They are not qualified and should be nowhere near the SC. Jenkins has never really practiced law and has never been a judge. Armstead is political hack. His practice, such as it was,has all been as in-house counsel. He doesn’t know a habeas from a corpus.
I think what is disturbing is him having a lifelong friend. What the hell is that? Every ten years or so us normal people kick everyone to the curb and hit “refresh”. Lifelong? WTF? Two days becomes intolerable for me. Go home. And quit sending me pictures of your grandkids, they’re ugly, insufferable fricking curtain climbers. Who told you you could bring them, too? I mean, really, c’mon. Where’s my duct tape?

Any thoughts on the politics of these impeachments? I’ve read a bunch of articles on this topic on TPM am none the wiser.
Even if the governor’s good friend is well qualified, the judiciary is supposed to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest. If any case involving the state executive comes up, this will get interesting.

I hear there was a run on Moonshine during the Brett Kavanaugh hearings. Lindsay Graham was so enraged not to be able to purchase large quantities that he went off the deep end that very week. Capitol Hill observers say Graham has calmed down considerably in the weeks since.
