Discussion: Well, Now We Know: Netanyahu Will Never Support A Two-State Solution

Discussion for article #236786

I’d love to see at a minimum the US reduce Israeli aid by every dollar spent on building in the West Bank, and an end to the automatic UNSC veto.

It’s all good- he really means it this time!

BDS. It’s time to treat Israel the way South Africa was. It’s sad to see the descendants of the victims of the Nazis become the Nazis.

He’s a lying POS - cut these ‘people’ loose and be done with it.

Let’s see how well they can do without Uncle Sugar enabling and protecting their barbaric behavior.

While I think that calling the Israeli right wing ¨nazis¨ is inaccurate, and counterproductive, I agree with your larger point.

“That realization must be matched by a new strategy for dealing with the Israeli right’s rejection of the two-state solution.”

Which is?

I have no illusions that Netanyahu and his coalition will never support a two-state solution. So what strategy can and should the U.S. formulate?

What does it entail?

Does it begin to connect aid, finical and military (Iron Dome expansion for example) to commitments by Israel to a two-state solution?

Would a shift in threats to stop acting as a heat whiled vote in the UN be used as leverage?

“What will the U.S. do if Netanyahu officially rejects the idea of a Palestinian state?” I would hope the $$$$, at least, would stop. Ideally beside the $$$$ all the transfer of military hardware would also stop. If they continue to thumb their collective noses let them stand alone for a change but you can place Vegas bets immediately that not a single politician has the balls to do anything, cowards one and all.

This hardly rises to the level of news, no? In other “news,” water still wet, Sun still rises in East.

Seems like it’s always been a requirement of the Palestinians to recognize the right of Israel to exist.

But now it’s OK for the Israeli prime minister to deny the right of Palestine to exist?

I know this whole endless conflict is full of hypocrisy on both sides, but this seems exceedingly blatant, even for Israel.

The US government, too, is opposed to a Palestinian state. It’s statements to the contrary are baloney.

Why Does Israel Oppose A Nuclear Free Mid East?

Because the United States, Great Britain, and Canada allow them to. This happened less than a week ago. Pretty sure that qualifies as the usual suspects.

Don’t hold your breath for a policy change on the U.S. use of the UN security council veto with regards to Palestine. It is not going to happen on Obama’s watch. To pretend that Israel was somehow not acting with complete transparency in deed regarding its intent of annexing the West Bank through settlement while preventing the Palestinians who live there from roles as citizens in the nation that occupied them for the past 50 years is not only naive, it borders on complicit.

So how do you both protect Israel from real and terrible threats to its national security, while also conveying your displeasure at its stance on the two state solution?

It has been obvious for some time that Netanyahu would never accept a “two states” solution. The recent election made it impossible to believe otherwise. Who in the US govt. thinks that a deal can be negotiated with Netanyahu? So, where do we go from here? A Palestinian state is only possible if it is accepted by the Israelis or if it is forced on them. It could be forced on the Israelis by a determined campaign by the US, Europe and the UN. Their agreeing to it voluntarily is highly unlikely, unless Netanyahu and his rightwing religionists lose power. How likely is that? It is also unlikely that the Americans will pull the plug on Israel, although they might support or at least not oppose action by the Europeans and the UN. Economic sanctions might bring the Israelis to their senses. If not, there is no “two states” solution, only a one state solution which threatens to undermine Israel fundamentally.

That is the path Israel is travelling down. WIthout a separate state, their choices are apartheid, mass deportation, genocide, or a Democratic Israel where Jews eventually become a minority.

Israel is lucky the Palestinians haven’t yet produced and lined up behind a leader with Mandela’s qualities.

“Displeasure?” How droll.

Netanyahu, Dore Gold, and/or any other Israeli officials should be arrested if and when they travel to an EU country. They should be tried as war criminals. It should but won’t happen in the U.S.

Arrest, incarceration, and public trials of these war criminals will certainly be the impetus for real negotiations and ending the pogrom against the Palestinian people.

Only after the apartheid regime is removed and the policy of genocide against the Palestinians ended can Israel be assured real security.

The neoconyahus should be held accountable for their sabotage. They are singlehandedly sinking any progress in the ME. It is similar to the addiction process. Fear is their motivator and Nutanyahu delivers that. Money makes their world go round via weapons and defense sales. The hydra lives. The neocons and religionists are playing a very dangerous game when they undermine any progress. There is no better word for their actions other than genocide. Their aims are now very clear.
