Discussion: We Now Know What Happened After NYT Reported Rosenstein Floated Taping Trump

Wow. So is it reasonable to conclude that the investigation, at least to a certain degree, was compromised from that moment forward?

Seems like Rod was keeping Trump in the loop every step of the way. This makes me wonder a lot about how much Rosenstein constrained Mueller and his team. Junior shouldā€™ve been indicted. The rationale given in the report does not fly particularly since ignorance of the law is no excuse.

ā€œAfter the report came out, Rosenstein offered to resign in a meeting with then-White House chief of staff John Kelly, but said he didnā€™t ā€œwant to go out with a tweet,ā€ according to the Washington Post. Rosenstein then spoke with Trump over the phone.ā€

ā€œI give the investigation credibility,ā€ Rosenstein reportedly said. ā€œI can land the plane.ā€

He was the ā€˜liaisonā€™ between Trump and Mueller (at least in regards to announcements), but Iā€™m also beginning to wonder too.

Rosenstein reportedly said. ā€œI can land the plane.ā€ Isnā€™t that what Barr said also when he appeared before Congress? Are they both frustrated pilots?

Sure sounds like it.

Letā€™s file for Impeachment, let the Public Hearings begin and get at the truth. All this BS, which, essentially, is a pre-Impeachment/Public Hearings chaos strategy designed (by people a lot smarter THAN Trump FOR the benefit OF Trump) to distort, divert, distract, and HIDE the truth.

They sure do love talking in code, as to give plausible deniability.

ā€œI give the investigation credibility,ā€ Rosenstein reportedly said.

Curious why he would use this particular appeal with Trump to save his job.

Presumably, the only people who saw the Special Counsel investigation as illegitimate were Trumpā€™s base.

What was really going on ā€“ or planned ā€“ that required it to appear ā€œcredibleā€ to Trump critics?

Maybe itā€™s time for the House to ask Mr. Rosenstein several hours of pointed questions.

Under oath.

Rosenstein is certainly not a profile in courage. As Mrs. Slocumbe from Are You Being Served would put it, he is ā€œweak as water.ā€

@ncsteve and @tena point out that this is a case where ignorance of the law is an excuse. @ncsteve wrote up a very nice post on it here.

What I donā€™t understand is how this applied to Manafort given his dirty trickster days go back to Nixon.

At this point it may be more important to get Rosenstein to testify in public under oath than McGahn. He was more concerned about his job than the country. He like most others in this administration are without integrity.

Probably even earlier, from the moment Rosenstein gave cover to Donnieā€™s firing of Comey.

I thought he was resigning his post, oh, I donā€™t know, months ago? Guess he now has to manage Barr and keep all ship shape. :smirk:

Saying, ā€œI can land the planeā€ to the guy that is one of the subjects of the investigation? That sure seems like an undiluted commitment to justice without even a hint of partiality. Wearing the wire and then resigning might have been a better option, though.

When the GOP got the House in 2010 things changed.

When we got the House in 2018, things will change.

Itā€™s in the Constitution.

Just looked and Rosenstein was going to leave his post mid-March according to WaPo. Guess heā€™s so engaged heā€™s lost track of time.
Hey Rod, just a reminder, itā€™s the end of April. I know youā€™re busy trying to do a little cover and cleaning, butā€¦

Both Jr. and then candidate Trump accused HIllary of taking donations from the Saudis which as the article explained was an illegal campaign contribution. Jr. tweeted the piece June 13, 2016. They all knew it was not legal to accept campaign contributions (HIllary emails). Junior shouldā€™ve been indicted.

He didnā€™t wanna go out like Tillerson. (guessing)
