Well those are very fine words, but fine words are cheap. We’ll see what happens.
Mugabe was terrible, and his removal from power is certainly worth celebrating. And removing him didn’t require pitched battles and mass casualties, so I’m sure that’s a relief for people too.
But the country is a basket case, the result of colonialism followed by Mugabe’s brutal misrule. And Mugabe’s replacement was, until recently, Mugabe’s chief enforcer. So I’m hoping for the best…but not betting on it.
