Discussion for article #222024
“Something has gone wrong.” = our core constituency is becoming increasingly irrelevant.
I wonder when the right-wingers will start shooting voters at polling places–the voter suppression laws haven’t been that effective.
Well, he was right about one thing. The “elites” (1%) are lying to the rest of the country. He just forgot to mention that the NRA is part of their base.
Wow, so much crazy in such a small package. They’re doing amazing things with miniturazation these days.
NRA bots seem to forget the well regulated part for some reason…
In that list of all the dangers in the world, “car jackers, road ragers” et al, he forgot to mention the dangers that await in Georgia churches.
Let me guess : “Be afraid!! Buy guns now!!”
What happens if everyone in the country owns a gun? Will the NRA start whipping up even more paranoia about all the guns in the country and the need to buy even more guns for protection? They are basically trying to create a citizen’s arms race just to benefit the bottom line of gun manufacturers.
Yes, and also Georgia schools and Georgia local government buildings. But I believe the Georgia state legislature and governor exempted their own work places from the free-for-all shoot-out.
I think that’s what it used to be about, but, reading this article, it’s really striking how the NRA is part of the right-wing political apparatus.
Retired Justice John Paul Stevens recommends "When serving in the militia. . . "be added after “bear arms” which is probably closer to the Framers’ intent.
That would be an update. I imagine when the 2nd Amendment was written, neither the state nor the federal governments could afford much of an arsenal, so they relied on farmers signing up and bringing their own hunting rifles.
We're sad not because we fear something is going wrong, but because we know something already has gone wrong.
Classic dogwhistle.
Shorter LaPierre: “America elected a Black man.”
Well that, but more generally he’s talking about demographic changes.
And that he’s one of the elites. That’s the part that just kind of flat out gobsmacked me. Dude gets paid a million bucks a year to to feed paranoia and tell lies.
Speaking of school killers, Nancy Lanza felt the same way about how society was falling apart and you needed guns to protect yourself. That’s why she had all the guns around.
I see you are versed in TeaBonics…
As MattinPA noted below, this is the same apocalyptic rhetoric that Nancy Lanza absorbed (and almost certainly Adam Lanza, too). Mr. LaPierre’s rage-filled rhetoric–all so his gun manufacturers get higher profits–is disturbing. One has to wonder how many violent shooters have been influenced by this insanity.
Too bad you weren’t willing to defend your country when you could have, you draft-dodging coward.
I remember some of the strange things he said after Sandy, about how people in New York probably wished that they had guns.
We were concerned about fallen trees, electricity, finding places for the newly homeless; Wayne believed we were worried about wild looting hordes wading through the city.
