I don’t know that this is still the case, but in today’s NYT:

And as much as I applaud this group filing a complaint, what good, really, will any of these protests do? There is something fundamentally wrong with our political system when the party in power can protect ANY illegal activity by a POTUS, if they wish to do so. There seem to be no checks and balances that are enforceable. Who will enforce the law if congress won’t (for political reasons)? Huge flaw, Founders!
It’s almost like Trump has…what’s that word…accomplices.
And it turns out it is “productive”, for his pocketbook.

The constant vigilance this administration and this President do and will require threatens to exhaust our diligence resources. I’m glad that there are so many willing to do the heavy lifting.
If the President does it it’s legal. If other people or agencies do it at the President’s direction their actions are legal.

trump is going to pay back the taxpayers for the advertising, right?
Easy solution. If Trump wants to make Mar-a-lago the “winter White House” then all proceeds and profits can be turned over to the American tax payers. We would also require access to financial records and visitor logs (including all the Russian “guests”).

I’m not sure it makes any difference in terms of the ethics, but I don’t think this was so much a “come to Mar a Lago” commercial on Uncle Sam’s dime, as it was an effort to legitimize the pervert’s repeat visits by positioning it some sort of quasi government facility (on Uncle Sam’s dime).
Regardless of the goal of the marketing campaign, it has the effect of raising the profile/value of the chintzy place, thereby clearly violating, IMO, emoluments…
But, but… both sides are just bad right? Dems and Repubs are all politicians and they are all equally crooks and bad right? Right?

It’s as I said when he was elected: to the rumps spelt with a t’ it’s ALL about them making money, period. They weren’t worth $10 billion when “took” office, but they’ll be worth more than that if allowed the four years.

Forget whether or not Trump is personally profiting on the side from government service — trust him, the government’s top government guy — Trump is literally pissing on every small business owner with an unfair competitive advantage.
Funneling government funds to his own golf courses? That’s fraud.
The flaw was inherent in the compromises which lead to the Constitution we have today and the founders knew it. With co-equal branches as a concept some disputes were inherently unsolvable. In constitutional law they are referred to as political questions and as such can only be resolved by ignoring or violence. Still the structure holds even surviving a major civil war and numerous minor ones. If you have ideas for another solution I’d really like to hear it. As for me, I only have faith.
