Discussion: Watch Tim Scott's Powerful Speech About Being Targeted By Police

It’s a powerful speech, but remind me again why he’s a Republican…

Why isn’t he speaking at Trump’s convention?

I have always wondered why other than it’s the reason he is there, having originally being appointed by a Rep governor.

Maybe because he has Republican values?

Great Speech on racial justice. Here’s a thought, why not become a Democrat and do something about it?

Nice. Now HELP people please. You recognize what happens when it happens. You would think you would want to help stop it.

I admit to being surprised at Scott speaking out.
Wow.
Usually Republicans - particularly Black Republicans - tend to poo-poo concernes as it relates to the Black community and pretend problems do not exist. Many will even deny that there is a racial problem as it relates to law enforcement. Nice to see Scott going against the grain and speaking out. Dare I say this must have taken a lot of courage because Republicans like to claim skin color does not matter. Scott is showing that you don’t have to have your pants around your ankles* or be a “thug” to be treated with suspicion. Good for him. Wonder if he will catch flack for this.

*Ive seen that excuse floated around by right wingers

Values? I wouldn’t describe what they believe as values.

I wish I could find the interview I heard a few years ago with Denzel Washington on getting pulled over regularly. He sounded absolutely exasperated by it.

Because he’s running for office in South Carolina? I imagine most of the voters see the (R) and don’t even know that he’s black. It’s good to know though that his being a Republican doesn’t change his being black as far as law enforcement is concerned.

trump-d, I started to write a snarky post about Scott, but I am glad I read yours first.

Great post

“I have felt the anger, the frustration, the sadness and the humiliation that comes with feeling like you’re being targeted for nothing more than being just yourself.”

He’s gay??

Question topic: Marriage is a union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Scott: Agree

I guess “just being yourself” only matters if you’re on the receiving end of the discrimination.

But, but, but discrimination doesn’t exist anymore!!! Justice Roberts said so!!!

This guy just put into the Congressonal Record that the GOP stand is BS. Good for him!!!

So I guess being an Uncle Tom doesn’t completely get you off the hook, huh?

Something akin to what Lucifer said in PARADISE LOST : “Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven.”
