There are lots and lots of very smart, forward thinking Texans. Barbara Jordan, Jim Hightower, and Molly Ivans did not emerge in a vacuum. But itâs true they are out numbered. For now.

One of the great impediments to overcoming racial prejudice in this country is that there are major institutions that benefit from and depend on the very bigotry and ignorance Mr. Hansen so eloquently describes. And the biggest and most influential of those is almost certainly the Republican Party.

Dale Hansen is one of the last of a breed of sportscasters.
Where most media actors have sold-their-souls to the MSM oligarchy-- Hansen remains unrepentant and true to his values.
In D/FW where Hansen has reported sports-- like forever-- I"ve come to respect him (as much as one can respect a sports reporter)-- though hailing from Houston-- I have a natural bias against all things Dallas.
FYI: Flower Mound is a white-privileged, (uppercase-E) Evangelical bastion.
Iâm unsurprised by the mindset.

The best thing about Hansenâs Unplugged is that he talks about what very few white people seem willing to admitâŚthat there are racists in their families, who tried very hard to pass their racism down to the next generation. Instead, whites, especially in the south, want us to believe they just popped out of the womb clean, and were never stained by the hate that festered in their parents who either joined in, or stood quietly by, while the Klan terrorized and killed, and lawmakers did all they could to keep blacks as 2nd class citizens. We are supposed to believe they donât have a racist bone in their bodies. Why would we believe this?
Take a look at the Koch brothers, for example. Their father funded the beginning of the John Birch Society, and the sons persist in pushing the same right wing agenda. Now if their daddy was a racist, why wouldnât they be carrying that forward too, and just be clever enough to cloak it because it is no longer socially acceptable?
And since white supremacy was the law of the land from before the constitution made blacks equal to 3/5ths of a white, until the civil rights laws of the 60âs, why would we believe that the children raised by racists donât carry that forward. Just look at the elections. Obama wins big in northern states that are 10% black, but in the south he gets only 15% of the white votes. Then they have the nerve to say its not about race. Yet there their kids are, in upper middle class Flower Mound, proudly holding up signs that say âWhite Power.â
Racism wonât disappear without effort. And if you are not actively working against it, you are quietly allowing it to persist. If you are white, thatâs your privaledge. You have the right to do nothing. And I have the right to blame you for helping racism continue.

Dale Hansen has been the most vocally hated sportscaster in DFW for 30 years but his career rolls right along.
My favorite Dale Hansen commentary was about some tense NFL negotiation Cowboyâs owner Jerry Jones was in not long after Jones had had his face lift: âJerry Jones didnât blink. Of course⌠he canât blink nowâŚâ

My father wasnât and isnât a racist shitkicker like this guyâs pappy, but I can relate to the total lack of diversity. Shit, in my school, diversity meant you had some gingers in the class.
