Discussion for article #228666

Louisiana Republicans will denounce this, yet support Diaperboy Vitter.

I dunno. Is there any hope left for this country, if this is what matters in elections today?

For some reason, people (read cis-het white men) are big on identity politics. They want their politicians to be down home kind of people like them instead of people who can actually govern.

Why is it called an “open primary” when it is, apparently, just a more than two party election? Does LA just not do primaries?

Work it, Senator!

Hey, if the kissing congressman can win reelection, why can’t a democratic senator do some wobbling at a football game? It’s patriotic!

It doesn’t do primaries in the usual sense, no. It’s called an open primary because on Election Day everyone who is on the ballot regardless of party affiliation and regardless if there are multiples from a single party go at it in the election. It’s also called a “jungle primary”. In this election there’s Mary Landrieu versus some dozen Republicans and a Libertarian if I remember correctly. If she wins 51% of the vote that’s it. Election’s over. If she doesn’t win 51% of the vote it goes to an election between the top two (regardless of party affiliation) in December.

First of all, GET IT, giiiiirl! Secondly, if the key to her victory is turning out the black vote, I would say she just won reelection.

Truly. Everyone loves the wobble! On a more serious note, why would it be a detriment to her for getting out and being able to connect with her constituents?

OMG!!!
When I first read the headline, I thought there was a suggestion she was drunk or something and I just rolled my eyes. I am SO glad I saw Plucky’s post and actually watched the video.
She’s doing “The Wobbly”!!! And did a good job too.

YOU GO GIRL!!!

I think connecting with communities is VERY important. When you see the people you are representing, interact with them and find common ground, you in turn can help them better, I think.

Likewise, if they see the candidate out there, listening to the people, having fun, they are more likely to support said candidate.

So yes, little stuff like this is important.

I actually live in his district. It’s because it’s either a choice between him or a peanut gallery of crazy tea party idiots and a single Democrat, the current mayor of Monroe Jamie Mayo, who has overseen a city with a humongous increase in crime. Even if it wasn’t his fault that’s not a good record to run on.

I think a Republican that favors Medicaid expansion in this state that has kissed a staffer is preferable to all of the crazy people that are running against him. You should hear the insanity they’re running on.

Now if you want boneheaded nuts take a look at Vitter’s run for governor. He’s likely to win. So much for “Christian values”.

What is wrong with wobbling? I think she is having a great time. Good for her. Republicans who don’t like dancing or drinking or just having fun will complain and whine. Go Mary! At least she is a real person compared to Cassidy who has a corn cob stuck up somewhere I won’t name.

Now, I can see there being a hullabaloo over it if she was wall-twerking, but this is just silliness.

Yes. That idiocy of “Bush was guy I could have a beer with.” Fuck that. I want the smartest man in the room. Don’t really care how “normal” he or she is. I want honest, capable even visionary leadership.
