Discussion: Watch: Rand Paul Doesn't Quite Know How To Feel About Ebola Quarantines

Discussion for article #229617

I wouldn’t classify his response as honest uncertainty - I would call it political opportunism. He brands himself as a libertarian, but being consistent with that line of thinking wouldn’t have allowed him to knock the “government” (i.e. Obama administration). And there is that “appealing to the Republican base” angle, too.

Doesn’t know how to feel because he can’t figure out how to use it to his political advantage.

The “discotheque”? Is disco still a thing in Kentucky?

Well, I don’t like the guy, but seems like a reasonable reasoning through. However, he’s careful not to propose anything he can’t later deny.

Standing in a creek and taking bong hits was his first choice, but his campaign adviser vetoed that right-off.

And is it just me, or did Ayn Rand Paul just dive into the Wet Look? His poodle rug looks Brill Creamed.

He has to see which way the political winds are blowing before responding. He is a doctor, too.

Oh yeah. I have said for some time that he is one of the most dangerous of the right wing. I do think however that while being slippery and conniving, he is not especially bright, and that as he gets further into a Presidential run, he is going to keep getting tripped up with stuff like this, because Libertarianism, at least his form of it, just does not work in a civilized society.

That’s very generous of you. I was under the impression that Rand was a self-accredited former ophthalmologist. Hardly anyone to you would want to consult regarding Ebola or any other disease (beyond pink eye), for that matter.

Agreed. It also is proving to be a meaningless word. Paul is just non-committal and wishy-washy. Until it’s time for a vote in the Senate, that is. When pressed to make a decision, he’s a dyed-in-the-wool Republican.

Why would he even have an opinion? There is no mention of CDC in the Constitution or bill of rights. Disease control is a state issue. LOL.

Rand shows exactly why Libertarianism does not work in a civilized society. Of course no REAL Libertarian would be so socially conservative as this fake one is either, because historically the Libertarians used to be very socially liberal.

He is just as conservative on the social issues as any other right winger is, and about the only thing that differentiates him from the rest of them is his stance on pot, and mandatory minimum sentencing. If he were President, he would sign a person hood bill as fast as you can blink an eye, and that is not a true Libertarian. He picks and chooses his Libertarian stances, to suit his political opportunities.

As for him being anti war. Yeah that lasted about as long as it took for ISIS to rear it’s ugly head. If he was President right now, the neo cons would have him putting boots on the ground in big numbers already.

“I think there is a reasonable public concern to say, ‘You know what, you really should be going to the discotheque; you shouldn’t be going to the local bar; you shouldn’t be going to the local school cafeteria, so I think there are reasonable precautions,’”

Rand Paul Tries To Kill Disco.

Yeah, Kentucky didn’t get the 1979 news feed from Chicago showing Steve Dahl burning Disco Records during a White Socks Game. Mayhem ensued and they had to cancel the game. Steve Dahl is coming back November 3rd Monday ( tomorrow) afternoon to WLS Am Radio. Has a current podcast as well…

You know, this turd can call himself a Libertarian every day until time ends and it means nothing. He’s a jackbooted Authoritarian, just like all the other Republicans.

Really getting tired of seeing exclusively republican ads on TPM.

Quarantines make sense for diseases that are spread easily like tuberculosis, but not for Ebola, which is spread only by physical contact with a person in the advanced stages of the disease in which they are too sick to even want to go out and mingle with the public. The quarantine is based on “bad science,” just like the judge who quashed the Maine quarantine said it is.

Funny how Randy gets distracted so easily. “SQUIRREL”

Don’t worry, his natural GOP authoritarian, racist, teabagger tendencies will soon kick in and overrule his libertarian bullshit.
