That is a different issue. I agree with you. It is one of the reasons I can’t stand McConnell, but that is the world we live in. We can’t expect any Republican to view any issue from the perspective of what is good for the country. They play politics every day, all day.
We have all known the filibuster was toast the moment Trump was elected. The question is how we deal with that reality.

But the Empire in the west only lasted 507 years.
The Eastern Roman Empire didn’t fall until 1453AD i.e. the imperial form of government lasted 1480 years. The city of Rome fell to ‘barbarians’ but the Empire lived on in Constantinople. Justinian was as much an emperor as Augustus and in fact very briefly retook Italy.
I doesn’t matter if we are in the final days of the American democracy we won’t find freedom again in our lifetimes.
BTW, nothing to keep them from packing the Supreme Court with 11 or 13 justices now.
