Discussion: WATCH LIVE: Netanyahu To Address Congress At 11 AM

Discussion for article #233886

You got your fact checking hats on, TPM? I want this guy’s bullshit ripped to shreds without mercy and without fear of using the “L-word” the rest of the week. For the love of all that is holy…please…NO QUARTER. He’d have us facing “WWIII: The End Times Holy War” if given the chance.

Oh no! If Iran gets the bomb then Israel won’t be the only one it the Middle East that has one. Then Israel’s use of force throughout the region will no longer go unchecked. Existential threat my ass.

This is political Kabuki theater and grandstanding of the lowest kind: The Orange Sphincter of the House and Bibi’ using the House chamber and intent on feeding red meat to their separate constituencies, heedless of
potential harm. And Republicans have simply seized the opportunity to deliver a slight to President Obama. It’s a disgusting and potentially very harmful spectacle.

Wil-E’ Netanyahu will, it appears, tell the American public what the United States government’s Middle East policy will be.

Did the Republicans and AIPAC put out the Tip Jar yet?

TPM will have to debunk,!'d prefer a root canal or a dip in Lake Michigan to watching that arrogant ass,

Oops, missing it! Have to pick up my doggies from boarding/day-care.

As Noam Chomsky said on Democracy Now in his Amy Goodman interview yesterday.

Israel does not want Iran to acquire nuclear weapons because it would allow Iran to use its arsenal as part of a deterrent strategy.

“The striking aspect of this is the chutzpah involved,” he said. “Israel has had nuclear weapons for probably 50 years or 40 years. They have, estimates are, maybe 100 or 200 nuclear weapons. They are an aggressive state. Israel has invaded Lebanon five times. It’s carrying out an illegal occupation that carries out brutal attacks like Gaza last summer. And they have nuclear weapons.”

Netanyahu seeks to prevent Iran from acquiring such weapons “because he doesn’t want to have a deterrent in the region. That’s simple enough. If you’re an aggressive, violent state, you want to be able to use force freely. You don’t want anything that might impede it.”

This is what Netanyahu said in his AIPAC speech yesterday about Israel:

Israel is a beacon of humanity, light and hope in Middle East

Chomsky in the Same interview:

“According to U.S. intelligence,” he continued, “their strategic doctrine is to try to prevent an attack, up to the point where diplomacy can set in. I don’t think anyone with a grey cell functioning thinks that they would ever conceivably use a nuclear weapon, or even try to. The country would be obliterated in 15 seconds. But they might provide a deterrent of sorts. And the U.S. and Israel certainly don’t want to tolerate that.”

Chomsky noted that United States “satellite surveillance knows everything that’s going on in Iran. If Iran even began to load a missile — that is, to bring a missile near a weapon — the country would probably be wiped out. Whatever you think about the clerics and the Guardian Council, there’s no indication that they’re suicidal.”

Another right wing love fest

No agreement means Iran is free to build a bomb.

What struck me here at the end of the speech was the sheer volume of platitudes and cliches just before the 3-part “list” of things to do (really just one thing), This is the kind of speech that makes you seem irrelevant, not important. Who wrote this thing? A race car driver without a car? Fateful crossroads? Robert Frost? Elie Weisel? Nothing new. I would think if you need to win an election, you bring it.
