Discussion: WATCH LIVE: Buttigieg Expected To Launch Presidential Bid From South Bend At 1:45 ET

Am I the only one who is impressed with Buttigieg, yet uncomfortable with the celebrity adulation heā€™s getting?

Itā€™s not adulation.
His team has very smartly and cleverly made access to the candidate easy and frequent.

Itā€™s a model for other candidates to emulate.

His plan is to tell his story first, before focusing on policy proposals.
And itā€™s working like a charm.

No. In the same way in which I very much like AOC, but am not a little put off at all the attention, good or bad, she gets. In my case, itā€™s because I have an intense suspicion of anything that looks like it might be the seeds of a personality cult. Weā€™ve had enough of that.

The media will do what the media does - all he can do is get his message out. And if he does achieve celebrity status - at least it will be through his ideas of compassion and genuine authenticity. Not how the previous guy achieved it.

Pretty much like how Bill Clinton and Barack Obama did it.

Googling ā€˜online stopwatchā€™

Though most will deny it, politicians are celebrities and depending on who they are, they usually represent the best of us.

Phenomenal! He could win! Great display of rhetorical expression. He turned a lot of the arguments against his candidacy and against Democrats on their head!

I listen to the whole entire thing on the radio and he was amazing.

Heā€™s said that heā€™s aware of the danger of the adulation going to his head, and that he intends to guard against it. He also has impressive rhetorical chops, as his announcement speech demonstrates.

Yawn. Thatā€™s my response to Pete. Nice guy. I like him. I note his kumbaya approach to politics and this election and I donā€™t see a winning message. He is getting outsized coverage in the media. Heā€™s nowhere near as accomplished or substantive as a number of the other candidates (especially the female candidates). I donā€™t see him getting 1 POC vote, but heā€™s serving to hurt Bernie and Biden and that kinda works for me.

Absolutely. I was thinking about Bernie and Biden when I heard him and I donā€™t see how they can compete.

I think he would be a good VP or National Security Adviser. He did have a nice rhetorical style that I liked. However, Kamala or Klobuchar are still my favorites for the nomination. Donā€™t underestimate these women.

OT

If Trump had been born with bigger hands and deprived of wealth.

Let the pandering to the unrepentant ā€œfuck your feelingsā€ crowd begin!

Both Harris and Klobuchar are fine, but so is Pete. The only thing that matters is beating Trump, which means winning back Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin. The two best positioned for that are Buttigieg and Klobuchar and Iā€™m torn as to which one would do better. I probably lean to Pete, because he is a relative newcomer, which in recent times seems to be an advantage.

I must live under a rock. I thought heā€™d already announced which is why I donated.

Well, Iā€™m ahead of the curve for once. I look forward to hearing more from Mayor Pete.
