Discussion: WATCH: Joe Scarborough Grills Trump On His Past Iraq War Views

Discussion for article #246141

Trump deserves credit for one thing: he forced the Republican base to face the inconvenient truth that George W Bush was president on 9/11, rather then beginning on the day after.

And we still donā€™t.

I have not been a fan of Donald Trump. However, I thought on Face the Nation Sunday he was the most coherent and appealing he has ever been. GW made us much less safer when he invaded Iraq. He strengthened Iran, created Al Qaeda in Iraq which has since morphed to ISIL, unstabilized the entire Middle East and North Africa, cost us trillions of dollars we could have spent on our homeland, and left so many of our noble soldiers dead, maimed, still suffering. I appreciate that Mr. Trump has squarely and fairly resurrected the issue that others in the Republican Party would leave buried, glossed over, or mythologized. Those would-be emperors now have no clothes to hide behind. Their facile naked misrepresentation is bared for all to see. We must all of us, Republican, Democrat, Independent alike, face our past honestly before we can have any hope at all of creating a better future for our nation

One of Marco Rubioā€™s most offensive moments in his disastrous and illuminating NH debate involved his gratuitous, extraordinarily ignorant, and disrespectful comments about the wonderful contributions to this country of Vice President and long-term Senator Joe Biden. Marco you are no Joe Biden. Not even close in matching him in good work done well with an understanding heart. But nor is Hillary Joe Biden, as much as I think a woman with proper credentials and a stirring message as President would be good for our country. A wonderful ticket for the Democratic Party would be Joe Biden for President and Elizabeth Warren for Vice President. Joe would bring foreign policy insight and wisdom (and more), Elizabeth would bring the passion for fairness that Bernie Sanders has mobilized and clarity about how to achieve it (and more). Together they could bridge differences across party lines, mobilize the better angels of our nature, and lead us toward the America most of us desire. I would love to see a campaign between Biden/Warren and someone with Kasichā€™s heart and decency/Haley. America would much better for it.

Mr. Trump may be the ā€œonly oneā€ of the Republican presidential candidates who was against an invasion of Iraq ā€“ but he is far from the only person who was against it. So many good Americans felt it was wrong on so many levels and a squandering of the good will the world was feeling for the U.S. at that time. GWBush was a horrible president.

Looks like Scarboroughā€™s trying to save the family. As we all know for years before the invasion of Iraq there were weapons inspectors on the ground in that country. The program, UNSCOM, began in 1991 and continued till 1999. The American Scott Ritter, the chief inspector, is a name we all remember. And we remember him mostly for insisting that Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction as verified by UNSCOM and later UNMOVIC ( an international version of UNSCOM ) or boots on the ground. He was gagged and off to war we went. He was also right.

If Trump picked up a copy of the NYT during the 2001 to 2003 period he would know this. Just like Scarborough knows it. Come on Americaā€¦this is not ancient history and you canā€™t fix up the massive fuck up Iraq war that easily.

I love that heā€™s speaking the truth, but canā€™t help being perplexed about how this helps him in the Republican primaries.

Because a lot of his supporters probably also dislike what Bush did going into Iraq, if not then at least now.

Scarborough couldnā€™t grill a fn hotdog!

These MSM revisionists-apologists are patheticā€¦it doesnt fucking matter he wrote the book before 9/11 and in 03 we didnt know the intel/data was cooked by Cheneys State Dept hacks.

Trump talks , he doesnā€™t do . Of course , he never served in any wars , how can he have any views ?

Ainā€™t it fascinating how folks can make claims without a shred of evidence and off those claims go into the InnerTubz:

Fiorina: I SAW videos of aborted babies being torn apart on operating tables. ā€“ No such video ever produced.

Trump: I SAW videos of crowds of people in Newark cheering the collapse of the World Trade Center (believed to have been crowd footage taken in Palestine but no Newark footage ever produced.)

Trump: I opposed the Iraq War from the start ā€“ no signs of his opposition anywhere in any media including his own book.

Obama is a Kenyan - production of his Hawaii birth certificate and those claiming this fact just ignore it as an obvious forgery (when in fact a claimed Kenyan certificate is immediately identified as a forgery.)

And on and on it goes. Our national information wasteland grows ever wider.

A Biden-Warren ticket would make my heart glad and probably bring a different type of supporter out of the woodwork. The passion, intellect, grace, and experience of such a ticket would have the potential to get work done. The old guard, who has learned the finer relationship-building, respect, and finesse needed to accomplish goals and objectives in the once revered Senate, along with the newer Senator, still highly intelligent and fearless in standing up to Wall Street and other bullies of like, without fully alienating vast groups of people and interests, is my dream ticket. Both are plain-speaking doers who seem to understand, as does Obama, that America is built of variationsā€¦from people to dreams. Knowing Biden and Warren were running as a ticket for 2016 would simply get me out of bed working for them every day. It would be a pleasure.

Why are so many sentences begun with ā€œSoā€? . Trump is just 1/2 step above the 'so, I , like, OMG, can sue ā€˜em into submission, ya know.ā€™

Headline says grills. Article says quizzed. I say Scarborough did little more than gently fondle.

ā€¦ we have attacked a country and destabilized the MIddle East ā€¦

While the rest of his logic is completely false and pretty much insane ā€¦ this one takes the cake. I wasnā€™t aware of just how stable the Middle East was before DUHbya sent in the Halliburton forces.

I especially liked the accompanying photo ā€¦ sort of a ā€œpoint-offā€ between stubby digits.

actually went back and tried to find a reasonable quipā€¦i got nothing

It turns out that James Fallows tried to locate an anti Iraq war response that Donald Trump might have made.

He couldnā€™t find anything eitherā€¦
