āI donāt pretend Iām helpless,ā Cole hit back. āIām not going to vote for bad legislation because itās politically expedient to do.ā and besides Iām an NRA whore and they would primary me out of my nice cushy job here if I even entertained the idea of legislation that would alter their bottom line in any way.
Be a realist Joe
Cole also warned anyone listening to leave his palm tree alone. And there was a key!!! ITāS JUST GEOMETRIC LOGIC, CANāT YOU SEE!!??
Iām also not going to try to fix bad legislation because:
- it would require more days at work
- I really do not think it is bad legislation
- I really do not know how to do it
Nice. Mixed meta-foredecks.
Catch 22⦠Joseph Heller is laughing somewhereā¦
I find it astounding the claim that barring those on the terror watch list from purchasing weapons a violation of the due process clause in the Constitution illustrates just how meaningless the terror watch list is, itself a violation of the due process clause of the Constitution. Itās been around for more than a decade and Congress hasnāt thought to fix it?
At least he admitted itās politically expedient not to have a vote⦠/s
NOBODY is asking you to vote for BAD legislation. We are asking for you to fix, build and pass GOOD legislation instead of sitting on your ass pretending that ānothing can be doneā. Stop the crap, Tom.
A flawed culture? You mean the one the GOP keeps promoting? The one that says you ought to be armed to the teeth to defend yourself from YOUR OWN FREAKING GOVERNMENT?
Just shut up Cole. Youāre wrong and youāre an asshole.
And werenāt the Republicans instrumental in making the rules for the Terror Watch list? Hmmmm.
If you are the GOP and you have lost Moaning Joe, you are deep in the weeds.
And didnāt someone put the late Sen. Ted Kennedy on the No Fly List when they first came up with it, just to be a dickhead? I seem to remember the late Sen. was not allowed on a flight due to his name being on the list. Of course it got sorted out pretty quickly but that set off alarm bells for me at the time as it was obviously politically motivated concerning Sen. Kennedy.
Feel free to refresh my memory of this episode.
Actually it appears Ted Kennedy was on the list because someone else with that name was put on the list. That is one of the problems with such a common name. Sometimes it makes you appear to be a terrorist.
Itās the list that is the problem? Not the Tommy guns that those not on the list use to slaughter people in mass murders? Letās fix the lists and give the gun manufacturers a fair shake. By all means, Congressman.
The republicans sit on their hands concerning issues of gun control, climate change, equal rights, inversion companies, healthcare expansion, immigration reform and other significant shifts required world leadership.
They are a shrinking mess of a party, not because of Trump, but because they have painted themselves into a corner, sucking their thumbs like toddlers,
Thus, Trump is what they get and deserve.
Thatās not the problem that faced those children at Sandyhook Elementary. Just ban sales of all military grade weapons to civilians. Give the kids a fighting chance next time. They canāt run as fast as the GOP House caucus.
āIām not going to vote for bad legislation because itās politically expedient to do.ā
If you donāt like the legislation, you can 1) vote no or 2) fix the legislation to make it good. Choosing not to have a vote at all means youāre admitting youāre not capable of doing your job. The Republicans donāt want to vote on this because they know they are stuck between a rock and a hard place. If they vote for the legislation they will lose the support of the NRA. If they vote against it, they will lose the support of the American people.
Pretty rough arguments. The background check system is flawed but partly because of the gaps put in it initially, if there were attempts to fix the system and then assess than I think one would be sympathetic to it being a failure or not, but knowing there are gaps, doing nothing and calling it a failure is not being unbiased.
I think that is one of my issues here. It is alright to judge people on all sorts of things and put them on a list but not for taking away their rights to have guns because a few people may be put on it by mistake.
The later may be a legit problem but conservatives did not care until guns came into the picture, at least on the whole. I think the legislature doing the job it is supposed to do and defining the list better or at least a way out of the list that makes it easier would be well within their power and protecting peopleās rights.
As it is, they are saying nothing would have stopped gun crime x. We do not know that, we only know what is and it is not like those policies are in place to compare or anything. The not selling to the no fly list people would have stopped this or at least delayed it and set off warning bells that the guy is trying to get a gun.
Iāve been watching the GOP in control of state legislatures the past few years. When they want to, they can have a bill written, debated, and passed within 24 hours. When they want to.
