Discussion for article #239984
I loved the analysis that, basically, Trump is pandering to the GOP Base absolutely perfectly. Heâs got the right mix of economic populism and abject racial hatred going on that the GOP Base actually wants and that none of the establishment candidates dare actually talk about.
Plus heâs the king of the put-down, basically Don Rickles with his own jet.
Thanks Jeb! for pointing out how much MORE of a pandering phony Trump is than the rest of the GOP field.
Love that insider ball from those two. Well more like âcup the balls, work the shaftâ lol
Now, if Trump were to stay true to what heâd said in the pastâand if, after due diligence on my part, I trusted himâIâd truly consider supporting the man. Jeb did a great job here at exposing the Tea Party militants for the fools they are for not so much as checking out the man and his past. Kudos to Jeb but big-time kudos to Trump for playing the GOP faithful for the hate-filled fools they are.
GO HOME JEB!
Donald sounds sane in this clip. WHAT HAPPENED?

Well, Jeb, if the base cared about anything much beyond the combative persona and fiery rhetoric of their latest heartthrob, youâd have a hell of an ad there. But the base doesnât care if the lyrics donât make senseâthey just want a good beat you can dance to. Any other ideas?
As a trained media person Iâd have to say that this is a very effective ad. Bush also has the money to put it out there if he wants. Though I despise both of these selfish mean-spirited a-holes, my guess is that, properly promoted, this is finally the tool that will bring Trump down.
Jeb: Dunk man stumbling around at night during a hurricane.
Please cut the âJEBâ thing and call Gov. Bush by his name. At least write âBushâ when reporting on him. This JEB thing is irritating. And, he should be proud of his legacy even if the rest of us arenât.
He has to put it out there a lot. And a lot of variances with the same basic message, i.e. Trump isnât really a conservative and you canât trust him. One ad is not going to make much of a dent, it has to be a sustained campaign that just wears people down.
The timing however, is about right. The summer flings are about over, and people are going to start getting a bit more discerning and serious about their flirtations now. And thatâs precisely when you want to start injecting this type of information into their decision making process.
The repubs are trying to take Trump down by trying to attack his weakness (or perceived or wished for weakness). They are trying to prove to the electorate that he is ânot one of themâ. They need to ruthlessly attack his strengths with their patented mix of truth an lies so that the base begins to question what they think they know about Trump. They need to highlight his amoral (perhaps immoral) approach to life and business. They need to show his history of turning on his life and business partners. They need to bring to light his monumental miscalculations and the ruin that they wrought in some of his spectacularly bad business deals. They need to highlight the actual ownership or lack there of which he has in a large percentage of the properties that bear his name. They need to destroy the myth of the larger than life business tycoon and paint him as merely a cardboard cutout of a tycoon supported by a lot of smoke and mirrors.
So will Trump attacking Bush and Bush attacking Trump nominate Carson?
Iowa Republicans just responded to a poll in which they indicated that they donât care if a candidate puts forth any positions on issues facing the country. They just âtrustâ Trump. Youâve got their number.
A certain segment of the voting public (cough)the dumbest ones (cough) were saying back in 2008 and onward that they wanted to vote for Palin because she had âcommon sense.â Positionsâschmositions, they didnât care, she could talk gibberish, contradict herself, be an obvious train wreck, it never mattered. Hostility and resentment and âoutsiderâ status were all they really cared about, and theyâre willing to deal on the outsider thing too. Cruz and Trump are outsiders? Pffft. Talking smack about Obama and âliberals,â nothing else matters. We really are in a post-policy environment now. Interesting times for the republic.
That first picture of Trump looks like it came from a tub of butter substitute.
@DaveyJones64: Summerâs coming to an end, but the Iowa caucus isnât until February. If this were the Pres election in November Iâd agree with you, but thereâs still lots of time for the base to change their minds.
@TheHatter: As Josh pointed out, and others updated, Trump is a moving target. Heâs going to move into a minefield one of these days, but it will be his own screw-up, not attacks by the rest of the Klown KaÂŽ that will do him in.
@hychka: did da poor wittle twoll get his fee-fees hurted? Maybe you should write a note to Barack Hussein Obama - as the nutjobs constantly refer to him - and get a kiss for your boo-boo.
I agree there is still time for a lot of movement. Which is why I said that any such ad campaign would have to be sustained to make any noticeable impact.
