Discussion: WATCH: CNN Panel Dissolves Into Heated Debate Over Trump And KKK

Discussion for article #246754

I donā€™t think Iā€™d call that a debate. Projection and tired trope vs ā€˜living itā€™ isnā€™t a debate. Mr. Jones was debating; the other asshole youā€™d like to say suffers from cognitive dissonance but more likely that was all mendacity. He can fool himself and his FOX buddies but if you look at the political affiliations of Black Americans he sure as shit isnā€™t fooling them. And GOPā€™ers ainā€™t gonna get the Black goodie with crap like that.

I am amazed that Jones did not take a poke at that reprehensible piece of lying excrement. I do not believe I could have been so restrained.

Bleedinā€™ Hearts, the KKK is I tells ya. CNN actually puts these nuts on TV. Shame !

I was watching this live and almost managed to kill him with my mind from sheer rage.

Do people actually believe this? This is right up there with the idea that black voters should be voting Republican because itā€™s the ā€œParty of Lincolnā€. Yes, it was, 150 years ago, back when it was the liberal progressive party and the Democrats were the conservatives in favor of a slavery status quo.

Then a whole bunch of shit happenedā€¦

Also, at what point does it even matter? Fine. The KKK are a leftist terrorist organization. I concede the point. WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH TRUMP NOT CONDEMNING THEM? Is your answer to the question as to why your candidate is cozy to them? ā€œItā€™s your fault there even is a KKK?ā€

Thatā€™s not an answer. Thatā€™s the most ludicrous deflection Iā€™ve ever heard. Itā€™s not just a lie, but itā€™s poor debatingā€¦

YOU COLOSSAL FLAMING ASSHOLE.

How Jones didnā€™t reach across the table and strangle him, I donā€™t know. I would not have had that level of self-control.

This is almost like that go-to line they use when a Republican is called out for saying some bigoted nonsense: Butā€¦butā€¦Robert Byrd.

Putting aside the fact that they have to keep citing antics from 80 years ago of a long-dead Democrat (who renounced his past) apparently the modern GOP doesnā€™t realize that weā€™re all on to the Southern strategy, we saw the party realignments, we saw Dixiecrats like Strom Thurmond, Jesse Helms, Trent Lott - and every two-bit Klansman south of Mason-Dixon - flock from the Democrats to the Republicans.

Whoever was in the Klan then, whatever party label they were, just doesnā€™t match up to where the parties are today. But I guess they think if they say it often enough, folks will believe it.

Itā€™s pretty easy to counter this shit. You simply remind folks of how all the racists left the Democratic party for the Republican party when they saw that the Dems were headed for civil rights.

The only people that believe are folks that need toā€¦GOPā€™ers. But whatā€™s up with this dude? He forgot to say MLK was a Republican. The thing was silly. A bit like a fish debating with a squirrel on what itā€™s like to live in the sea.

Van Jones showed his superior intellect and admirable restraint.

Those klansmen are not just south of the Mason-Dixon line - theyā€™re all over now. Iā€™m in PA and there is supposedly a large white supremacist presence here, too, made up largely of blue-collar workers who USED to be Democrats but now vote 'pub if they vote at all.

And donā€™t get me started on Idahoā€¦

VAn Jones cleaned Jeffrey Lordā€™s clock

Iā€™ve never heard of Jeffrey Lord - until now. And with that tortured logic and selective and context-free review of history, Iā€™m amazed and dismayed that CNN gave him a platform.

And Lord isnā€™t the first to spout that crap. The KKK thing is a prepared teaparty talking point thatā€™s going around.

Itā€™s funny to hear Lord telling Jones to get his history straight. The ā€œDemocrats started the KKKā€ argument of today has got to be the most massively disingenuous bullshit attempts to turn the tables on where we are today in regards to race relations and party affiliation.

It doesnā€™t surprise me that this guy is a Trump supporter. Seriously, fuck these people, and especially this guy.

Not to mention the political aspirations of the KKK. They are a leftist organization, that always supports Republican candidatesā€¦ wait what??? I mean give me a fucking break, the ā€œdebateā€ is about the Klan endorsing a Republican! These assholes have zero shame when it comes to straight up lying.

Lord is either lying knowing that few will call him on it or care, or actually doesnā€™t read history. At this point, its probably both.

True, and true.
But imagine the entertainment value had Van Jones gone all Van Helsing on the liar.

If the KKK is a leftist organization, I guess that must mean Trump is a leftist, too, since they support him and show up at his rallies to shove women.

Shame on CNN for enabling this white racist!

Yep. Pretty simple.

Itā€™s also pretty simple to point out that the KKK is supporting Donald Trump - the REPUBLICAN candidate. So much for them being a bunch of leftists.

There was a time, not so long ago, when no news outlet that considered itself legitimate would have let someone come on and talk that kind of absurd propaganda. Itā€™s a combination of false equivalence, the Overton window, one partyā€™s slide into radicalism, and the general superficiality of what used to be TV news. The collective mind that our political discourse happens in is rapidly becoming demented, like HAL 9000 did. But anyway, yeah, that stuff should not be allowed on a mainstream news sourceā€”not as a dogfight, not in any way.
